I recently found out that I tend to hold the bottom portion of the grip on the racket more than the middle or up short like Tony Gunawan's service grip.

Is this a problem? Can someone talk about difference gripping styles, if any?

    Thanks!

Which game do you play most often ? Singles or Doubles ?

If it's in singles, there's no problem with holding the bottom of the handle. Some singles players tend to wrap grips only half way up the wooden handle, so that they can constantly hold the bottom portion of the handle. This allows them to generate more power with their shots, hence the simple formula.. W=FD. The further the sweetspot of the frame is from the pivot/where you hold the racquet, the more power you can make..

Doubles players hold the racquet all the way from the bottom to the top. They hold the bottom for smashing, and the top ( around the cone ) for drives, net-shots or for any delicate shots..

hello cl, which badminton grip to use depends on the situation. If you are in rearcourt hitting smashes and clears, holding longer down on the handle will give you an increase in power (since your racket will become longer, the swing will be more powerful). There are although some negative aspects of gripping longer down. Since the swing becomes longer, it also requires more time, which u dont always have in badminton (for example when under huge pressure), also the longer the swing the less the control. the shorter the racket is, the easier it is to controll the racket head, giving oppotuinty for more precise shots (for example in doubles while playing at net it is common to grip higher on the handle).

I would recommend you to read Gollums gripping guide, you can see it in this sub-forum in the thread called "new grips guide is completed" or something like that.

In the grips guide, you might like to look at the page about grip length.
