This is just out of interest... I have started playing at a new club, theyre a non-league club. There is a guy there who is ambidextrous (he can use both his right and left hand), and he does so while playing badminton. I don't mean using one hand in one game and the other in another game, I mean swapping over in the middle of games e.g. if he had a shot on his right side he would hit it with his right hand, then if the shuttle went to the left he would swap his racket to his left hand rather than doing a backhand. It sounds very odd I know, and I haven't seen this before. Is this against the rules in badminton? I would have thought it was but I had never thought about it until i saw him play!!
it is not against the IBF to switch hand to play your shot. I believe u can even play with 2 racekts, one on each hand.
I've seen this too.. quite amazing, clearing full court with both hands.. it would be cool if we can learn the footwork for both our left hand and our right hand. this way.. we'll be unstoppable~!
yes, having 2 rackets, no wasting time of switching rackets between hands. Imagine on a drive shot duel twice the coverage and faster response
lol, u mean two nerve signals colliding Well, it is still good, because usually when clashing rackets, one survive and u chuck out the broken one on the side line and continue game with 1 normal racket
Taufik wouldn't need his backhand if he was ambidextrous.. and Chen Hong would be like a machine which he already is..
Lin dan is ambidextrous, but we are all experiencing hallucination.. No wonder he can dive to one side, then jump back up to the other side and do a jump-smash..
lol....... i think they'd have to figure out how to serve first with two rackets before having a chance to clash rackets
My 2 cents. I'm a right-dominant person. But I can play with both hands now. I got the dreaded "tennis elbow" on my right side a few months ago (probably from playing too much too often). So I switched to training with my left hand. This was to allow time for the right elbow to heal and not have to stop playing completely. I'd say my left is now about 75% of my right. In doubles, I find that if I'm playing in the back, I usually have enough time to switch hands to avoid hitting backhand. If we're engaged in a "drive war", then no, there's not enough time to switch. I'd be "stuck" with whatever hand I happened to be using before the "war" started.
I am ambidextrous as well.. and being able to do many things with both my hands.. my only prob is, i don't use a backhand shot with my left hand.. hahaha.. Usually, i believe it's how someone's everyday life makes them able to do such things.. like for me, i do a lot of stuff with my left hand especially in my workplace.. practically everything is done with my left.. but outside like writing or what.. i use my right.. so my muscles in both arms are always moving and put to gd use =)
It would be better to use just one hand because the time it takes to swap hands for the racket will slow you down quite a bit.
yeah.. definitely eh.. hahaha.. but i only use like that when i have hits or stroke with my mates.. in tourneys or anything else.. it's just committing suicide..
not for 88raymond, it doesn't. So far, he's the fastest switcher I've ever seen. Not that I've seen thousands, but he's really fast that swithching appears natural in his movements.
I can play with both hands because i had a fractured wrist where i trained with my left instead of resting... Strange enough my left is better than my right for drop shots. Because my left is weaker and I use a AT900T, when i played with my left i had to get good at the touch stuff because i could not generate very powerful smashes. I have an extremely powerful right. I may at times switch hands but to their surprise it's a drop shot =)
