A national badminton academy will be set up in Cheras, here, which will function as an excellence centre for the sport, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Abdul Razak said. The RM24 million academy will be equipped with various facilities including a hostel, gymnasium and 30 badminton courts, he said. “The academy will be an excellence centre for the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) to train players who have the potentials to excel in the international arena,” he told reporters after opening the National Sports Convention here. He said that with the centre, Malaysia would be able to train between five to six times more players than the current pool of national shuttlers. Najib, who is the chairman of the cabinet committee on sports, said the government recognised the sport’s contributions to the country. http://www.nst.com.my/Current_News/NST/Tuesday/NewsBreak/20081111145829/Article/index_html
