Registering a badminton club is like registering any sport or recreational club, which is governed by the laws in your country.
In Hong Kong, such clubs must be registered with the Police on an application form, which requires 3 club officials to be office holders responsible for legal compliance. Registering the club allows you to open bank accounts and to collect membership fees from members, which would otherwise be illegal if the club is not registered legally.
Other countries may have different laws. To find out just ask other clubs.

Hi taneepak, wow i dont have idea at all that it will involove a lot of paper works! I have to travel for 4 hours to other clubs just to play thats what made me decide to put up a club here in our place. Mmmmm seems rough time is looming for this club of mine. To my fellow badminton fanatic out there , any input to make this dream come true will be appreciated. Thank you.

Imagine it as one big family :)

To begin with, you don't register a family, do you?

    Badminton already has its rules.
    So no worries there.
You can set the other rules as you go along.

You could pay for everything the first week (or month).
Mark everything down so that you can show it to the others.
At the end of the first week (or month), work out your total spend.
Use that as a reference to work out how much each member should contribute.

So long as you are careful about who you choose to let in, you should have a friendly group and a fun thing going in no time :)

But this is not what a club is. If the organizer has to use his own funds first and then get reimbursement after the funds are actually expanded, this will not work for a club with many members although it is ok for a small group.
A club collects money at the beginning of a term from all members, and if any member does not turn up for a game, the club does not lose anything. If you do not have a club and you book say 3 courts for 3 hours each court, what happens if only 5 players turn up? If you are not a registered club it is illegal to collect money before it is being used.

I guess that's the risk for setting up group (not club). There are abundant of badminton enthusiasts here in Singapore and Malaysia. Badminton will not make you poor. It's the time you have to be discipline at. I don't have much of it really. ;)

This is precisely why I suggested waiving the 'registration' bit ;)

"A club is an association of people united by a common interest or goal."
It doesn't mean or imply having rule-books, forms and whatnot.
Keep it simple... and everything works.

Ideally, he should spend first and collect later.
By then, he will know how much to collect.
In any case, it's obvious from his first post that he isn't short of funds.

Thanks guys for the info. I think I'll do the " keep it simple..... hopefully everything works" including paper works and rules.
