That's a good news for china badminton , I think the end of LYB's day is on longer ,because LYB's background also collapsed ,and a lot of china badminton fans hate his behaviors and wished LYB to step down as soon as possible.
She & Hai Ai Ping were arguably the best WS & WD players for the world during their era Until today, none of the ladies players able to achieve that (Top Ranked in both Single & Doubles event)
for the GOOD of the Chinese domination,, i hope that Li Lingwei should stay out of the team,,, if she want to join the team,,, than she should be a coach like on her early retirement... don't disturb the harmony in the team coz i think LI YONGBO has done so much great achievement for Chinese team... Li Yongbo start as the manager when China team are lack of great result,,, and now they are in Domination,,,
What exactly is this "good news for China badminton"? Would someone explain what this discussion is about? If not, (in the absence of translations,) this thread will be deleted.
I guess some of us are showing our age? Yes Li Lingwei and Han Aiping dominated WS in the late 70s to early 80s I guess... Still, a great player does not a great coach maketh... I also think that while LYB is not the most likeable individual, his results speak for themselves.
this is some interesting development in the Chinese badminton national management. basically, Li Lingwei, one of the coaches who resigned in 1998 after some disagreement with Li Yongbo, will be holding an important role again in the national team management structure. Li Lingwei was one of the two badminton queens in the world in the 80s. together with Han Aiping, they dominated women's badminton, sharing every possible championship for WS, and together they also dominated WD. after retirement, LLW became one of the young team coaches, others include LYB, Tian Bingyi, and Li Mao. later on, they had filed complaints about LYB misappropriating team funds, which was later on overruled by investigation by higher ranks. Li LW and Li Mao together resigned and Li Lingwei went to different dept. and Li Mao as we know, self exiled as coach for a couple of prominent foreign teams. now, Li Lingwei has been promoted to the same exact rank in the management hierarchy as Li Yongbo. it is unclear how their power willl be shared and distributed in the management. the development will be interesting to follow. while the incident happened 10 yrs ago, certainly there will will be grudges and friction will develop. hope that's good enough a description of what is said in the articles.
her list of achievement is pretty incredible: 1980 - national champion 1981 - World Cup champion 1982 - Japan Open champion 1982 - All England Champion 1983 - world champion 1983 - AE Champion 1984 - AE runner up 1985 - World Cup champion 1985 - World Grand Prix champion 1989 - World Champion
Sometimes it takes a threat to make things happen kwun, you are officially appointed 'Chief Translator'.
I was under the impression that Li Lingwei was LYB's boss. In one Thomas Cup challenge round Li Lingwei was the official manager of the Chinese team and LYB the chief coach. At a dinner in KL for a group of Chinese players, including LYB, it was Li Lingwei who paid the bill and kept the receipts. BTW, Li Lingwei is a quite sports power in China; and if it comes to any showdown with LYB I think the latter will lose. Li Lingwei is a member of the BWF Hall of Fame as well as a Council member of the BWF. She is also a member of the IOC's OlympicProgramme Commission as well as a Deputy Director of BOCOG's International Relations Dept. She was also awarded this year the IOC Asia Trophy for her outstanding contribution to strengthening the participation of women and girls in sports around the world. She is a slo a member of China's CPPCC.
As much vilified as LYB has been, it's hard to argue against his results. As long as he can produce this kind of results, he will be Da Man, regardless where he sits on the hierarchy. Unless there is a major scandal, no one would dare to upset the apple cart.
