Ya... the first time I saw that news article I thought the same thing, must compete in 8. Turns out no rules like that =)
Glad that they didn't put that in or most people wouldn't be competing in the Finals~

LD can make it if he gets another title or runner up and it depends on Tago'sperformance as well...if Tago decides not to come to HKG then LD's chance is much bigger...

this SS rule is self defeating, shutting out top players for missing out some tournaments. Top players bring in the crowd and sponsorship $$$. This SS rule only hurt bwf and badminton in general. If TH, LD and lcw stop playing for 6 months, would us fan be piss off if they can't compete in SS next summer?

Even if he doesn't qualify, LD should be awarded a wild card or something like that.

    What's my choice???...

..well, since you asked, I'm pseudo-okay-on-the-fence with whatever happens; in other words i'm for all of the above..
    a. sad - not to see him play for the last time this yr with the best MS players..
    b. mad - for having this last minute scrambled announcement by the BWF to hold the event..if they'd told us earlier, most likely LD would've participated in more tourneys..
    c. don't really care - because i'm not the one sponsoring the event; will just enjoy it..;)
    d. happy - because other players will have an opportunity to participate and get a piece of the US$500k prize money...
    ;)

Btw, i wonder if kwun or mods will make a poll for this, to see what everyone's choice will be about LD participating/not participating in the SS Finale.

LD is @ #9 (1160 pts behind #8 TH) in SS standing after China Open. Since there are 3 Danes in the Top 8, LD has guaranteed his place in the SS Finale.

how can??? even if Tago there(he was rank16),, LIN DAN was ranked no.9,,, and u think TAGO can perform better than LIN DAN ???

seems that Huangkwokhau knows everything,,,,,,, but it's just false...
    :confused::confused::confused:

Huangkwokhau should worry about Taufik Hidayat position since Lin Dan has a huge chance to kick Taufik from top 8 rank....... but since there was 3 Denmark players and 3 Chinese player there,,,, than Taufik Hidayat still can go to the super series final as LUCKY LOOSER or WILD CARD...

What a rules set by BWF.....:mad::mad::mad:

we are talking about the SS ranking now..
not the world ranking of course..
    there's 2 ranking..
the world ranking and the ss ranking..
so, in order to be in this SS final, u need to be at least rank number 8 to qualify..
thats the case of tago and lin dan right now..

I don't know how SS ranking points are computed, but since LD beat TH in QF in last year's HK Open, and went on to win the title, and the best LD can do this time is to keep the title while TH has already done better than last year, most likely LD cannot overtake TH.

According to the link, it seems only this year's tournaments are counted. Then LD will indeed replace TH if he win the SF tomorrow.

We must abide by the rules of the Super Series as formed

    .
Even though most of us at Badminton Central would like to see both LD and TH to be included in the 2008 SS Finals, we must abide by the rules of the Super Series as formed.

The SS Finals are for those who could qualify to participate in it. And talking about LD, we hope that China would not announce, like they did last year (2007), that CHN players would not participate in the SS Finals. It would really make us all disappointed.
