    Default The Thickness of Grips

    I have ppl telling me that Thicker Grip (2 layers or more) are better for feel and control, where as the Thin Grip ( 1 layer) give better power and speed.

    I tend to use 1 layer grip but keeps getting blisters.... when i used 2 layers grip I lost my total badminton game. hahaha

    Any suggestions.

    I used to use very thin grips before, but I also started getting blisters and even bruises on my thumb. So I've switched to using very thick towelling grips now, approx G2.

    I suggest you to simply add one layer of overgrip over the original grip, or just use replacement grips. Karakal makes very good replacement grips and overgrips IMO.

    I had the same problems too. My solution is replacing the original grip with 1.8mm thick grip then add one layer of overgrip onto it. This is refering to Yonex G4 grip, for G5 simply wrap 1.5mm grip over the original.

    At first it feels big but I'm used to it now. It gives a soft and solid feel.

    Actually, just try all the different combos.. one layer replacement grip.. if it doesn't suit you, try adding an overgrip over it.. and another layer.. and another.. just until you find that you feel comfortable playing with it.

    last time i playing with thick grip...but after changed to thin grip i found it's more powerful for me haha...so now i stick with thin grip

    Try this..

    I wrap my grip so that it is thinner at the bottom and thicker near the cone. So when I'm at the baseline and need power, I'm holding the thin part, and when I'm at the net and need speed and control, I'm holding the thicker grip. Took a while to get used to it but works out quit well. The longer handle of my cab30 does help .

    My grips are some what similar to yours. However, I also make the bottom very thick.

    My question it that it may take time to get use to but it would effect the distribution of weight in the racquet.. would'nt that make it head light?? less power in the smash??

    I have a g4 grip and i put 2 yonex overgrips on. I tried putting one but it gives me blisters...so 2 does the trick.

    Depends on the size of your grip on your racquet, not modified.

    I use Yonex G3 grip size but not all racquets offer G3 size. So for those that are G4, I add one layer of thin Yonex Overgrap, just the cheap one, and one layer of thick grip, either Karakal or a fresh towel grip will work, which makes it into around G2.5. For G3 grip size, I still use two layers, but it's thinner than what I have for G4. Usually I recycle the used towel grip, of course from my own, and wash them. I will apply a thin Overgrap, the cheap one, then apply the wash towel grip. Because the G3 size is bigger than G4, I need to have one thin and half thick towel grip to have the same feel as the modified G4. In the end, they would feel the same, for me at least.

    PS: Don't throw away your towel grip unless it is absolutely unusable!

    Didn't feel any difference in the weight distribution.. probably I do not even care enough as long as it works out well for me, and it did . I'm not a heavy smasher anyway.

    Hazarded a guess .

    I used to do like what you did when I played singles. The thinner base grip would not work so well in singles since I'll hold the racket at the base all the time. For me, it was more like overlapping for the required thickness at the base, then just wrap the rest off so the grip will go the whole way resulting in the base being thicker than the top .

    i use a thin grip because i find thin grip is eaisier to hold

    I've always liked a thicker grip. However, be warned, I got tennis elbow a few years ago cos the grip was too thick
