Mens Single Best Smasher
To accompany the best smasher for MD thread, i recon this thread should at least exist too

On the other thread which was locked (i dont know why
), i compiled a list of MS players that BCers praised most.
I really like the fact that smash in MS has evolved and still (i believe) evolving now. By that I mean not only the frequency, speed and power, but also the technique, style and the implementation of the smash in the ever changing baddy game itself. These last three factors i think devines the way smash is used and copied by next generation of players, who later will improve it to an even higher level.
MS list:
1. Liem Swie King x 4
2. Heryanto Arbi x 5
3. Yang Yang x 3
4. Taufik Hidayat x 3
5. Lin Dan x 6
6. Lee Chong Wei x 1
7. Morten Frost x 2
8. Zhao Jianhua x 3
9. Paul Erik Hoyer-Larsen x 1
10. Sun Jun x 2
11. Misbun Sidek x 1
12. One spot up for grap...........name your hero here!!!
Feel free to discuss!!!

Peter Gade should be included. I think it would be completely unjust and unfair to not include him. The man is a legend in his own right.
He is over 33 years and still ranks consistently among the top 5 in the world. You can't achieve that without having a very reliable smash in your repertoire. His may not be the deadliest, but it gets the job done. Accurate, powerful enough to either set up a kill or finish the rally.
I mean, if you can include Misbun Sidek, surely Peter Gade deserves to be in the list!

Fair enough. In that case, here's the complete list:
MS list:
1. Liem Swie King x 4
2. Heryanto Arbi x 5
3. Yang Yang x 3
4. Taufik Hidayat x 3
5. Lin Dan x 6
6. Lee Chong Wei x 1
7. Morten Frost x 2
8. Zhao Jianhua x 3
9. Paul Erik Hoyer-Larsen x 1
10. Sun Jun x 2
11. Misbun Sidek x 1
12. Peter Gade
Mods can you create a poll for this????????????????? Thanks

aargh, typed out a long reply but deleted by accident.
IMO, the poll is too large in choices and is in danger of becoming a "my favourite player type thread".
I suggest you cut the choices down to 6-8 players.

Chen Hong e.g AE05 or WC06.... wow

..i think we can take out these players as they only have 1 vote (Lee Chong Wei, Paul Erik Hoyer-Larsen, Misbun Sidek & Peter Gade) and go ahead with those 8 other players and put the 9th option as "Others"..or anyone else has other names to throw in??..

OK as ctjcad suggested, i change the list to include "other" so people can name their choice if its outside the list, and also to accomodate discussion further:
MS list:
1. Liem Swie King
2. Heryanto Arbi
3. Yang Yang
4. Taufik Hidayat
5. Lin Dan
6. Lee Chong Wei
7. Morten Frost
8. Zhao Jianhua
9. Sun Jun
10. Others................
Sorry I cant left out LCW, he's world's no.1 ATM it will be too silly if he's left out. What do you think Cheung?? Are you happy enough??

Shouldn't we define what we mean by the world's best MS smasher? Is speed the only criteria? I would think not. Would being an effective smasher, which means the highest ratio of kills or set-up kills or putting the opponent under pressure for the final blow be a better definition?

Agree with technical criteria mentioned by drifit and taneepak. IMO these player on the list all have met the requirements. For example, Heryanto Arbi demostrate how to jump smash and follow it up with a speedy netkill.
Just want too add that for me the important criteria is how the smash stroke has been redefined from time to time. For example, how Lin Dan improve the application of power and accuracy in his smash. In comparison to Heryanto Arbi, Lin Dan often does not need to do a netkill anymore since his smash only is enough to finish off the rally. Having said that, without Heryanto's smash there may not be Lin Dan's smash today.

I think you are missing some bigsmashers in the Poll.. Chen Yu as mentioned smases really hard.. Also Wang Zhengming has tremendeous power, Kenneth Jonassen also had a huge smash when he was playing.
