Hi, I will be staying in singapore with my family for about 7 weeks starting middle of January. I am an intermediate player and currently playing about 4x3hrs per week. I think we are staying on the east side (orchard road i think), and I am in desperate need of people to play badminton with. This is my first trip to Singapore and I dont really know my way around, or places to play. My wife is from Singapore but she doesnt play badminton. So can someone direct me to where I can go to play pickup game or where I can go to find a group? I can pretty much play anytime during the day because we are technically on vacation. If I can get around 10hrs of badminton in per week ill be a happy . I prefer to play with a regular group of people if possible. Thanks, Kevin Last thing: I will be in singapore from 20th of January to Middle of March.
Welcome to BC ^^ Wah 10 hrs of badminton a week ^^ You're quite a hardcore player also it seems =) Orchard road is more central singapore than east, actually. But anyway, just look around for posts looking for members, state your intention to join, and turn up on the day itself, that's all. Usually the court fees & shuttles' costs are equally shared, and will cost between maybe $3 - $6 or so per session, depending on the duration, venue & type of shuttles used. I have a regular session every Saturday morning in the east: http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=60401&page=44 You can see if it suits you =)
redskins009, welcome to Badminton Central Check out Hougang Sports Hall on Hougang Avenue 10. We have a regular session on Wednesdays - 8pm to 10pm. This group has quite a few intermediate players.
Hi Kevin, Orchard Road is central and quite accessible to most places. You may wish to join the group in playing at Bishan Sports Hall every Monday and Wednesday night from 8pm-10pm. http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34806 By train, Bishan MRT is about 15 mins away from Orchard MRT. You'll then need to walk Bishan Sports Hall which will take about 10 mins.
So do people generally bring their own shuttlecocks or does the court fee cover the shuttle? I heard that Singapore badminton players are extremely good, so an intermediate player in the US will probably be a beginner in Singapore :crying: LOL. But in all, this is somewhat of a vacation and I intend to see as much of Singapore as possible. Im just worried that I wont be able to find anyone to play badminton with. So what are some favorite badminton facilities in Singapore? Thanks
Sorry for asking so many questions, but if I just show up at any badminton sport halls, is it pretty easy to find a group to play with or do people tend to set up specific groups for friends/club members only?
To start with, take a tour of the sub-forum named 'Singapore'. For groups that have open lists, check if you meet the required 'level of play'. If you do, quote the list, add your name and show up at the appointed time. Showing up without warning or without an invitation = embarrassment
That ExtremeCentral dude plays in central area for sure. Only on Sundays. He come with a map too. http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=55657
Are there any places in Singapore that have open play? As in you can show up pay your fee and play with whoever is available/levels?
The groups over here in BC are opening up their playing session to anyone who wish to join them. You will need to put your name down in advance in the list....... How can you possibly show up anytime of the day and expect people to be playing? Didn't you mention in your first post that you want to play with a group of regular people?
Yeah I plan to play with regular if possible. But here in LA, not many people play badminton, so we just usually show up to a specific gym and play with whoever is available for like 2-3hrs or so. Usually the same people would show up and I just group them under the "regulars" lol.
BC is short for Badminton Central. Maybe you can join my group this weekend at Henderson CC. This location is not very far from Orchard and you could simply have a cab fetch you over within 10 minutes. Please see my thread here for details.. http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=55657&page=13 Scroll down to the last post for the latest updates.
You didn't get it He's arriving in Singapore only on 20 January. That is not this weekend, but much further on.
Yes I did so I tot he should simple monitor my thread after he arrives, to see whether the locations fit his schedule.
