(i don't know why i skipped this yr's preview) but with the hectic 2008 BWF calendar year coming to an end just around the corner (filled with the Olympic Games excitement & the SS Masters Finale finally coming to fruition) and another hectic 2009 BWF calendar year coming up in about a week or so (with who-knows-what-surprises-will-show-up), which player(s)/pair(s) do you guys think will be the player(s)/pair(s) to watch next year??..
Will it be someone new for each of the field (MS, WS, MD, WD and XD), or will it be same old story and players??..

    ctjcad,

Well, who are your picks?:)

I don't know the up and comers....

...but I have a feeling that Chen Jin is going to do better than just be accused of being given LD's scraps. With no Olympics, there will be no talk of coachs fixing matches. With a little more assertiveness he might just be dominant.

It would be nice to see Tien Minh Nguyen and Kevin Cordon do well...( Canucks love folks from underdog countries).

Sadly for my hero Sony Dwi, I have a feeling, after a nice finish to the year, he may slink back into inconsistency.:crying:

Be pleased to learn more from more knowlegable fans.:)

i think saina will make a charge this year, i'll be keenly following her progress.

also morgensen and boe, hopefully they will stay injury free ...

    2009: Badminton players to watch

    .
    Mens Singles
LD and LCW should still be expected to be the best 2.

    Womens Singles
Hope that SN could do it for IND.

    Mens Doubles
It's the arrival of the MAS's Fuzzy pair, I hope.

    Womens Doubles
Could WPT/CEH continue with their momentum?

    Mixed Doubles
NW/LN should be able to maintain their top position, I think.

I totally agree that Saina Nehwal is the one to watch next year. Perhaps she and Marai Kristin will be the ones to challenge the Chinese girls consistently this year. Tine, Zhou Mi , WC , PHY and XHW are no spring chicken and will find it difficult to stay consistent. I expect LL, WYH and WL to lead the Chinese brigade in the World Championship.

LD and LCW will remain dominant. CJ and SDK are two good bets to threaten their dominance. Time for Taufik, Wong CH, Gade and BCL to fade into oblivion. Expect these new dragons to make breakthroughs- Tago, Gong WJ, JP and Hong JH. Too early for Chen Long, Tanongsak and Arif yet, i think.

In MD, Malaysia will have a very bright future if they get it right. With KKK, TBH, Teo Kok Siang, Mak Hee Chun, Ong Jianguo, Guo Weishern ..etc (all under 21 bar KKK). Nobody else in the world has such depth. China will rely on Xu Chen (possibly with Sun Jinjie or He hanbin) whilst Korea has Cho Gun Woo, Shin Baek Cheol and of course the incomparable Lee Yong Dae. Adcock (eng) is an interesting talent and I'm sure he'll be as good as Blair / Robertson / Archer etc. in the near future. Pity he doesn't have an equally good British partner to develop and mature together. Watch out for Boe / Mogensen to break into the top 5.

China will dominate WD as usual. Cheng Shu / Zhao yunlei and Pan Pan / Tian Qing will replace GL/ YW / ZJW / WYL eventually. If Lee KW retire, then I really couldn't see anyone else beating the Chinese this year. Maybe Ha Jung Eun / Irawati / Jauhari / Polii / Singapore pairs can make a breakthrough, but I don't expect top 5 material here.

In MXD, Lee Yong Dae should dominate with Lee HJ. Interesting new top 10talents are Xu Chen / Zhao Yunlei and Fischer / Pedersen (no idea how old the Danes are). KKK and Zheng Bo will do well once they decide which young talent they shall partner.

Oh well, sorry for rambling on. Just my point of view;)

Nahhhhh, that's old news. For MD : it's the new partnerships/youngsters/new batch who are the ones we're watching to see ;):p:p. For Indonesia, Bona/Ahsan is very promising.

MS : none outstanding that can challenge the current seniors as yet, me thinks. It'll be the usual suspects in tourneys.
WS: Saina N, Wang Yi Han, Wang Lin
    XD : Marissa/Rijal
    WD : Zhao YL/Su Cheng

I'm sure there'll be more new partnerships coming up next year since OG is over.

    For INA's MD:
I am hoping Wifqi Windarto/Afiat Yuris Wirawan show glimpses of their talent. They are only 19 and will be turning 20 this year and have huge potential in them.

And who says we don't have talents as deep as MAS MD? We still have:
Fernando Kurniawan/Lingga Lie, Rizky Yanu Kresnayadi/Albert Saputra, Adi Chrisna Wijaya/Syahmie Syarif Radhitian, the other few promising but untested Djarum pairs under Coach Sigit Budiarto like Mohd Ulinnuha/Berry Angriawan.

These pairs are typically not WJC winners like MAS or KOR pairs, but, they will only begin to show their true potential after their junior years.
