It just means that the tension is too high for your hand speed. By hand speed, I mean the last foot or two of the home stretch swing of your hand before impact. A fast hand speed with wrist snap can hit a very high tension racquet effortlessly; a slower hand speed will feel like you are hitting a brick wall.
Some shots that require precision, control and speed can only be executed with very high tensions, like a sharp wrist flick return of a very powerful smash diagonally across the net.

I don't think he was talking about tension

GTA - due to some different materials certain strings give a soft feel whilst some provide a clean crisp feel also referred to as a hard feel.

try hitting a shuttle with a fry pan and then try hitting a shuttle with a pillow... one will feel muffled the other will feel very hard and crisp.

It tends to be a matter of preference which is better or worse...

I'm not sure if you've played golf or table tennis or other sports were this is discussed but for instance for table tennis a bat will feel harder when it's made from a stiffer harder wood. For golf some balls have soft covers and cores for good control and spin whilst hard cover balls give a firm feel and reduce spin...

    Good call gumpy.
Just want to add a few points. I assume you are talking about strings like BG70-pro. It is a stiffer string. If you have a left over BG70-pro and left over BG65. try to bend 2 piece of BG70-pro then BG65, you will see the string is harder to bend. In addition to that test, harder string are less stretchy than softer string. Last thing is, given the 2 same racquets strung with 2 strings at same tension, 1 is hard feeling and one is soft feeling. You will see the string bed feel stiffer and less springy.

It feels hard when you hit it, not soft. Almost as if it was strung tighter.

Hard feeling means yr racket tend to vibrate more on hard impact. Not advisable to use hi-tension hard strings on light frames, u may like it but yr wrist+elbow will suffer.
Softer strings also tend to hv shorter optimal tensions, ie they dont repulse as well after a few months, regardless being used or not
