Hey guys, I learned stringing without pre-stringing and just doing it all on the machine with two pieces of strings cut, one for mains and one for cross. My teacher told me how much to cut for mains and crosses, but I forget the exact numbers. Can you guys tell me how much to cut for mains and how much for cross? I'm using the single packs of strings (10m). Are they both even? Meaning 5m for mains and 5m for cross? Or is one figure higher then the other? Thanks.

5.4 to 5.5 m for the main, and the rest for the cross. OR, in general, it's about 8 racket length for the main, and the rest for the cross.

Now that you say 5.5m for main, I kind remember, I think he told me 5.5m for mains and 4.5 for crosses. Can anyone confirm? Also, has anyone ended up not having enough string? If this happens, what do you do?

you will not run out of string, unless you did something wrong in weaving the string. I normally use ~4.8 m (7 racket length) for the main and ~4 m (6 racket length) for the cross, and I do 22x23 pattern.

So out of a pack of 10m string, how much do you usually end up not using?

I normally use 200-m reel. for 10-m pack, you will normally end up with 4 short sections, like about 10 to 40 cm long each. this will depend upon how you do the stringing, of course.

3 max distance arm lengths plus one finger to shoulder length for mains. 3 max distance arm lengths for crosses.

    10 m = 33 ft

I usually keeps 17 to 17.5 ft for main, the rest for cross. It's a safe range provide that you usually fairly normal machine setup, and string 18lbs of tension or more. ;)

For Y shape rackets, especially with low tension, you may need to consider give a bit extra for main, but take a risk of no enough string for the whole racket.

Dont cut the string until you've tensioned the mains, then make sure you have just enough for tying off, the remainder ought to be sufficient for the crosses
