Hi everyone, I was wondering if any of you play with natural strings and if so, what strings do you use? I don't mind Nanogy 98 at all but they're just not as good as natural strings. I'd love to try natural gut again (loved it last time) and have the money to keep playing with natural strings now. I guess what I'm asking is, what natural gut string would you recommend?

I used natural gut once from long long time ago. They were great except it will not last more than 1 week even. Last time (about 1 year ago) I checked, only Babolat still produce natural gut badminton string and you can not string higher than 26lb. I checked with a dealer last time and dealer cost was >$25 USD. Try to call Babolat distributor in your region to see if you can get a set.

I found Bow Brand for myself but after an email, they said they no longer produce natural badminton strings. That's a shame as their tennis strings are meant to be awesome. Anyone got any other ideas for a good natural string? Preferably stringable at high tensions (28Lbs would be great, 30 awesome) but I understand that probably isn't possible.

I've looked in to those. They look so awesome. Expensive but awesome. I think I might have played with them before. If they're the ones I'm thinking of, the feel was epic. I think I'm gonna treat myself to a pack or two. Thanks, silentheart.

    An idea of monumental stupidity?

Hi guys, I just had an idea that might cure gut not being able to take high tensions. What about using squash strings in a badminton racket? Somebody did it in this thread so do you think squash guts in a badminton racket would work or am I just being an idiot now? I really want to be able to play gut at high tensions.

The person in the thread I linked to managed it (albeit with a very odd pattern). I think it would depend on the gauge of the string. I'm sort of tempted to give it a go but then the sensible part of me is telling me that it's a stupid idea that probably won't work and I should spend my money on something else.

I did a little light Googling to find out what gauge I'd need if I was to get anywhere near making it work. Apparently, the thinnest squash string is gauge 18 and this was what the person in the thread I linked to used.

Anyone else care to share how stupid (or otherwise) they think the idea is?

    AWESOME!

Thank you so much. Natural gut at reasonably good prices. :)

I requested a catalogue but haven't heard anything yet. The Titan strings are so cheap. BG-65 is £7 at Decathlon lol.

Update: I got my catalogue today. I shall be ordering the Titan strings, probably the thicker gauge. At a later date, I may try the Klip and Babolat ones.

Thanks for bringing W&D to my attention, Neil.

Oh and just out of interest, do Titan have a website? I've tried Googling and can't seem to find the Titan I am looking for.

that would have been monumental Stupidity. CoolDoo6 wasn't exactly the smartest person around. he had intelligence, but his ideas were sometimes borderline. that 'experiment, as well as his shoe one were a bit..... naw, lets get back to subject.

however, i am now waiting to see how the natural gut preforms. i have never used it before. Happy playing!

    Thought so

I'll give you a review when I get the strings and chance to string and play with them.

So does anyone know what the Titan Australia web address is?

    well...

I did use natural gut a really long time ago and almost totaly forgot about it untill a few weeks ago when I got my hands on some old cab 21 with natural gut pre strung on them. Then it all came back to me. I used Babolat VS back in the day, and the cab 21:s i got now also have the same string.

My impresions? Well it is a soft feeling and a rather dull sound. Mostly because it has lost most of its tension, but even strung at higher tensions it gives a soft feeling and a rather low pitch sound. The grip is good and to me the power is about average.

There are two reasons I hesitate to recomend it (at least Babolat VS):

    1. It's heavy! Yes, it's true. These strings are heavier than others and it changes the balance of your racket quite much. (I guess I've got the 0.80 version.)

    2. It loses tension! It is said that natural gut holds tension best of all strings. That might be true. But if your strings are in a moist surrounding they will lose tension instantly. I guess it absorbs moisture. It is after all dryed intestants...:p
