Malaysia Open 2009: Day 6 (Finals) Sunday January 11

We have arrived at the Finals with:

    Mens Singles:
Lee Chong Wei (1) [MAS] vs Park Sung Hwan (5) [KOR]

    Womens Singles:
Zhou Mi (1) [HKG] vs Tine Rasmussen (2) [DEN]

    Mens Doubles:
Jung Jae Sung / Lee Yong Dae (2) [KOR] vs Alvent Chandra / Hendra Gunawan [INA]

    Womens Doubles:
Lee Hyo Jung / Lee Kyung Won (4) [KOR] vs Yang Wei / Zhang Jiewen (5) [CHN]

    Mixed Doubles:
Nova Widianto / Liliyana Natsir (1) [INA] vs Lee Yong Dae / Lee Hyo Jung (2) [KOR]

Both Lee Hyo Jung and Lee Yong Dae could get a chance to win 2 titles each.

    :):):)

Hope Indonesia can take MD title here. as Alvent ever beat JJS/LYD, when he partnered Luluk..
It's time for NW/LN to throw away their mr/mrs RUNNER UP title..

i think Alven/Hendra have slight edge since they're new scratch pair.....and their play style maybe not quite recognizable yet by the koreans.....as for nova/butet, the tittle here will be bright start for this year......

A bit disappointing with how Mel/Shendy getting demolished by the Chinese old guards....
Nova/Butet survives pretty tough match...while MK/HS inability to put the game away finally cost them, as predicted...
Will be interesting to see how Hendra/Alvent goes against the KOR pair. I was against retreading players, but as expected, Sigit Pamungkas knows something more than plain amateurs. :)

    Mixed Doubles Final:
Lee Yong Dae/Lee Hyo Jung over Nova Widianto/Lilyana Natsir - the Koreans have shown great spirit by coming from behind to snatch the 2nd game in their semifinal. The World Champs showed better performance in the semifinals but will require herculean effort to upstage the Olympic Champs.

    Women's Singles Final:
Zhou Mi over Tine Rasmussen - The World No 1 showed her class when she was continually able to come back from huge deficits to outwit her opponents. Defending champion Tine has not been as confident and consistent, but if she can maintain composure, Tine can gain some leverage.

    Men's Singles Final:
Lee Chong Wei over Park Sung Hwan - The defending champ had to survive a difficult battle against a Morten Frost-powered Gade, the fact that he did survive will make LCW stronger. However, Li Mao's new charge was effortless against Hsieh, and has boundless energy levels to sustain the fight.

    Women's Doubles Final:
Yang Wei/Zhang Jiewen over Lee Hyo Jung/Lee Kyung Won - Another battle between World Champs and All-England Champs, replacing the fight that did not happen in the last Olympics. The Koreans have won their last couple of fights before, but the Chinese have better form with possibly more crowd support and some coaching assistance from CTF.

    Men's Doubles Final:

Lee Yong Dae/Jung Jae Sung over Alvent Yulianto/Hendra Gunawan - Having survived 2 desperate battles back to back, the All-England champs will have had the belief that they could go all the way and win the first title of the new season. Despite them not being in the best form, they are still heads above the new INA combination.

2009 Malaysia Open SS Finals: INA getting no title?

    .
 INA getting no title at the 2009 Malaysia Open SS?
I should not believe this. :):):)

Let's hope that Alven/Hendra (a non-seeded entry) will win the MD title.

I hope Yang Wei and Zhang Jie Wen could get this title though i also like the Korean girls

I hope this stretches to 3 sets.

Do the CHN girls get more crowd support just for the fact that ZJW is engaged to CTF??

Could be because LYB is no longer taking charge and the girls are now freer to mingle, and of course, ZJW's relationship with CTF.

Nova/Lily do have a decent chance to win XD, but they cannot go off the boil suddenly as in previous finals to the detriment of Hauge's health and well-being. Sometimes we felt that their shot-making decisions are flawed.

LHJ is not moving as fast as before since recovering from injury. Definitely not at Olympic Gold form yet. On the other hand, Lily should not get herself trapped to backcourt too often, INA pair often find difficulty rotating back when that happens.

It's the worst scenario that may happen. I guess XD has bigger chance to win title than MD, we'll see...

    Mixed Doubles
Nova Widianto/Liliyana Natsir [1] vs Lee Yong Dae/Lee Hyo Jung [2] -- a repeat of the Beijing Oympics Gold Medal match. I think Lee/Lee have an edge, but, Nova/Butet can also spring some surprise if they believe in themselves and play well.

    Women' Singles
Zhou Mi [1] vs Tine Rasmussen [2] -- my pick will be on Zhou to win yet another SS title.

    Men's Singles
Lee Chong Wei [1] vs Park Sung Hwan [5] -- no doubt about it, LCW to win back-to-back MAS SS title.

    Women's Doubles
Yang Wei/Zhang Jiewen [5] vs Lee Kyung Won/Lee Hyo Jung [4] -- the now independent CHN girls to win back-to-back MAS SS title after last year's thriller.

    Men's Doubles
Hendra A. Gunawan/Alvent Yulianto vs Jung Jae Sung/Lee Yong Dae [2] -- a marvellous effort from the newly formed INA pair to get into the Final in their first attempt, which include the spectacular comeback from the brink of defeat yesterday. This also represents AG's first Final in a SS event. Alvent's experience in beating the KOR pair last year will hopefully help them, but, the KOR still has the edge.
