Premier League football clubs are to offer thousands of young people the chance to get involved in Olympic sports. The Government insist the move will be a "ground-breaking partnership" between football clubs, community sports clubs, and 320 secondary school pilot schemes. Badminton, judo, table tennis and volleyball are to be offered to thousands of young people. "Premier League 4 Sport" will cost £3.8 million up to London 2012 with coordinators to be appointed at each of the clubs, and is an idea that could be expanded if it is successful. The scheme was launched last week by Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport Andy Burnham and Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore scheme at Tottenham Hotspur's training ground in Chigwell, Essex. All 20 clubs in football's top flight will link up with community sport clubs to help attract young people in their vicinity into the four sports, as part of 2012 legacy plans. for more..visit the following links http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/ot...clubs-to-help-2012-Olympics-legacy-plans.html or http://www.premierleague.com/page/Headlines/0,,12306~1522791,00.html
This is truly wonderful news. How I wish all nations would do this! That would grow badminton everywhere
yeah, saw this in the recent episode of Premier League World, whereby the 4 sports were exhibited, and some Premier League players from Tottenham helped out... One was Jonathan Woodgate, who played mixed doubles with Gail Emms! and it was really funny and nice to watch the footballers helping out, and encouraging young kids to take up, at least badminton!
