As I know, many players have their own occupation. Except for China players(they are full time sportsmen), some players have work to do. EX. Wijaya is a pharmacist some Denmark players are doctors (incredible!!) Jens Eriksen is a truck driver Bach Howard is a supermakert cashier For Asia player, many of them go to differnet fields after retiring. EX. Sze YU and Gong Ruina become actors http://news.sina.com.tw/article/20090124/1317714.html http://www.8bo8.org/News/166148.html So , how about discussing this topic? what kind of occupation do you know that badminton players do?
In the west, it's common for a pro to be working elsewhere in a job unrelated to badminton. In the east, it's uncommon for a pro to be busy with anything other than badminton. For instance, no player on China's current squad works for a living. They play, train, play and train. However, nearly everyone on the Denmark team works for a living. Unless you're Peter Gade or Morten Frost, it is difficult to generate enough from badminton for the times ahead. Here's a few others: England's Rajiv Ouseph is a graduate in Media & Communication Studies. However, he is now a full-time professional player. Denmark's Thomas Laybourn is a graphic deigner. England's Donna Kellogg holds a degree in Physical Education, Sport Science & Recreational Management. India's Chetan Anand is an Executive Engineer with the Oil & Natural Gas Corporation. He studied Mechanical Manufacturing.
Interesting question - raises several issues, especially here in the West. English WS player Jill Pittard has a full time job as a calibration engineer for Landrover cars. She recently won the WS title at the English National Championships http://www.nationalbadmintonchamps.co.uk/ Smautf
