Has anyone ever had to deal with mold forming on their shuttlecocks? I only recently started using feather and my first tube of shuttlecocks about half of them developed mold around the base of the feathers. Other than that they have been very durable (2 or 3 games per shuttlecock).

Any suggestions as to what I may be doing wrong when steaming or storing?

Never had that problem. Played feathers since forever but I have never kept a tube of feathers around for more than 6 months with most shuttles used up within 2-3 months.

The mold set in about three weeks after I opened the tube.

never had the mould problem, but had stuff growing on the feathers before. brought back a few tubes from overseas, didn't use them for a while and when open them up, there were things growing on the feathers. had to throw them all out. :(

maybe climate or something affect the feathers?

How are you steaming your shuttlecocks? Are you steaming them over a rice cooker or something similar by any chance? Mold needs food to grow on and I don't think there's enough food on the feathers by themselves to sustain them. I would expect the tube itself to grow mold before the feathers.
