Having just come back from the 1 shop in my area that offers restrings £30 lighter (BG68Ti - it was that or BG65 for £27) I was wondering if that is about as expensive as it gets? There is another shop about a 30min drive away, but I need the racket back by Friday and I couldn't get there (£14 and a much wider range of strings). So, tell me.... how bady was I royally ripped off? How many have paid more than this for a restring? Looking for some horror stories Mark
We've paid way too much! The total was the price of stringing + cost of broken/damaged rackets. Stringer always seemed more concerned with setting record stringing times so he consistently runs his turbo on high boost. In the end, the boost was just too high and the mechanicals just couldn't take the high pressure so as a result, things break
I paid 36.00 USD (BG66) at a Badmintoncentre in Baden, Switzerland for a very mediocre stringing job - arrrgh, what a rip-off! :crying::crying::crying: Best job ever: USD 4.00 (Top range Gosen String) in Kuala Lumpur by the same stringer who strings LCW's rackets ... WOW!
Exceuse me, but how do we determine it is a "good stringing job" ??? What to check and test ? Any ideas ?
The racket was an Edgesaber 10 costing £50 (yeah I know :crying... ludicrous. It came to me mis-strung, and didn't have enough time to send it back to the supplier as I'm playing a tournament on Saturday. Apparently it's strung on a top of the range Babolat machine blah blah blah, but still.... if I could drive the 30 mins it would have been less than 1/2 price. The premium one pays when one is desperate....
there was a guy who did stringing in my club for £15, bg65. i would never pay £27 for bg65, it only costs me rm25 to have bg65 strung in malaysia, which is under a fiver.
Yeah, but unfortunately where I am there is only 1 place to go, so they can pretty much dictate prices. Having said that, I'm sure last time I was in looking at grips they were stringing BG68Ti for £23. This is why I want to buy my own machine... £30 a pop pays for itself even if I only restring my own rackets.
Most expensive was £22 but I was desperate! Currently paying £12 for BG80 @mhigham - Edinburgh's a pretty big place, I'd be surprised if you couldn't find a private individual (rather than a shop) who does restrings for half the price, possibly you'd get a more personal service too. At the risk of being flamed...I've noticed there's a few posters on the badders.com forum who are based in Scotland, maybe there's someone in your area who could help you?
I posted a message for stringer in London and one person PM'd me (ended up being someone known to some of my friends). Also being relatively close he picked up and gave back my rackets meeting me around my work place. Anyway - used him twice to string Nanogy 95 for 15 quid each time. Think he was charging 13.50 for BT 65TI. So for you 30 quid I had 2 rackets with nanogy 95.
I could get someone cheaper but it was more the time factor. I needed it back Friday. I'll have a look for people in the area, but not isn't so important as somewhat ironically I've just received my other Edgesaber (wasn't expecting it until next week) so there was no urgency after all.
I think the issue with restringing service is that, it usually takes; ~2 hours (beginner) ~1 hour (intermediate) < 1 hour (Expert) Considering £5 per hour (plus ~£4 for the string) minimum wage in the UK, hence £12 is very cheap, bargain.
You guys are paying way too much. I am paying £10 for a full restring using any...yes any yonex string. Another guy charges £12.50 for a restring using ashaway rally, other strings may cost 1-2 pounds more. Both are very experianced stringers.
My wife is proposing to move to Scotland and live near Loch Ness. She can sell cakes and cookies in shape of Nessie while I string racquet next to her. I will have my camera with me all the time in case I need to capture the picture of monster...
