In patients with severe ankle sprain attending eight emergency departments in the UK, a 10-day below-knee cast was associated with a speedier recovery in terms of ankle function, pain, symptoms and activity three months later. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/7886619.stm
Long term outcome was the same however, after patients were reviewed a few months later, and no difference and function or strengh was noted, so while it may be faster, it will end up the same anyway it would seem
not a few months, 9 months "early recovery is very important to patients, so although there is little difference at nine months, the speed with which people are able to get back to normal activities is an important finding." would a faster recovery not be important to you? I know it would to me.
Definitely would be to me. That was why I opted to wear a neck brace when I was suffering from whiplash. The sooner you get back on court, the better.
oh I absolutly agree. Just wanted to mention it, in case people who tried early mobilisation ( like me ) were worrying that there was any long term disadvantages/damage.
