The first pict is good! But if it was perhaps 0.25s or so slower, it would have been perfect with the shuttle in view. :p

    Good try indeed!

To answer your question, yes, the 50mm would have been better. In fact, I find a 85mm to be almost the best as it will give you a little room to step back further. (but if the courts are small, then it becomes a problem). I find sports with a little bit of distance is always a lot easier to take. Easier to anticipate the shuttle from about 7-8m than any closer.

Maybe should go take snap shots of my friends the next time! I'm inspired! ;-)

hmmm 85/1.8 maybe a bit long. Maybe i'll rent 50/1.4 and try it out, I think i need F1.4 for these local gyms.

Tks for the comments and suggestions.

Yes, it's the Whampoa CC hall.
Until 2006, I used to play there twice a week :)

They have properly-positioned ceiling lights but these vapour lamps are too dim to provide a sufficient level of lighting for badminton. Instead of moving up to stronger lamps, they added tubelights on the sidewalls... and, foolishly enough, these lights are fixed at normal hitting height :(

Although the surface is tiled, they are anti-skid... and quite alright.

That is Hong, a very good player :)
