hi i have just had all my rackets strung with bg80 at 26lbs and i noticed at the top of the racket the plastic coating is cracking where is goes round the grommets. what could cause this because this souldnt be like this.
Hi D34no, i am a stringer...BG80 is good but your tension of 26 lbs is way over the recommended by the manufacturer. try between 20 to 22 lbs. I use 20 to 22 lbs for my clients and NO cracking. Regards Keng, Brampton, On., Canada
26lbs. shouldn't be a problem as long as the stringer is careful while stringing... also what colour of BG80 are you using?
Most players use over the recommended tension anyways, so it's not really anything to be concerned about. If it cracks under higher tension, then it would be a problem with a stringer. I personally use 25 x 27, without issues.
BG80 or BG85 require special care when stringinh at tensions above 28lbs. Inexperienced stringers will find problems when stringing the first cross string when using 2-pc stringing. Other then this, it is no problem going up to 33 lbs on BG80 or BG85.
hooked?... no,... i would say i'm now blind to any other string though I do keep hearing the great Pandas words in my head ("28lbs? is that all" ) BG80 for the win!
Taneepak, I wonder if you might be able to expand on this a little? I'm most definitely in the 'inexperienced stringer' group, having strung only my 2nd racket today (both Apacs ES10, 1 with BG80 and 1 with BG85, both at 25lbs). Cheers Mark
My BG80 showed some cracks at 27lbs but doesn't affect the playability. Only issue is durability. If it can last 2 months then it's ok.
BG80 and BG85 have a spiral strip of vectran along the string. This makes it's surface a bit rough with the vectran strip poking against the outer jacket. When you string the first cross string at the top the type of knot used is critical at very high tension. Knots like a double half hitch knot expose too much of this vectran strip contact with the string, which at very high tension creates too much friction. It will just see-saw the string at the knot. You need a knot that stress less on the vectran strip. The above applies only if you string the first cross from the top at very high tension. Some stringers get around this by using lower tension for the first cross or pulling the first two cross strings with one pull, but both are at the cost of playability.
