Chinese Badminton League 2009 It is official that China Badminton Association will roll out the badminton league by end of 2009. First, I had been told by Xu Huai Wen and her sichuan player during SS final ( Kota Kinibalu) as she might be part of it as a player or a coach... I had been told that a player can earn around US$ 50000.. CBA had secured the fund around US$ 3 Million and this effective way also to stop ex-players or club players going abroad.. It will consist 8 teams and I am not sure if national players are allowed to participate or any foreign players can be recruited.. It is good news that DEN,GERMAN, Japan, soon China and I hope INA will follow ( INA has it but not on continuing bases)...
^^It's interesting..^^ ..but then they've got: - Futbol/footie/soccer - Basketball - Golf - Tennis - Table Tennis - other sports to compete with.. Even in Indonesia, a country where badminton is arguably one of the top 2 if not 3 sports, after the Superliga was started, it hasn't been mentioned much nowadays.. Anyway, best wishes to the new badminton league and hope it'll attract more viewership and interest from abroad as well..
Open to all pros. Not for local. I think a Local League team is allowed to have at least one imported player. Its good way to expose international players to the local lads and vice versa. Malaysia also wanted to have a same kind of program but then... dont know what happened to it.
CHN does have a Professional Table-Tennis League (they call it Table-Tennis Super League) where players from JPN, HKG, and SIN are spotted.
its just like japan had its own league and also germany with their bundesliga and other european country too
08:40, February 18, 2009 After a seven-year break, China plans to relaunch its badminton club super league this year. Liu Fengyan, director of Table Tennis and Badminton Administration Center under China's State General Administration of Sport, said on the 50th anniversary meeting of the Chinese Badminton Association here on Tuesday that they will relaunch the league later this year. Although Liu did not disclose the exact date, he gave more details on the number of clubs, saying that there will be six to eight clubs each with at least 10 shuttlers for the league. "We don't expect too many clubs involved in the league as in the inauguration year we want to see how it works, and leave as less impact as possible on the national team," he said. The Chinese badminton club league was once started in 1999 but closed in 2002 due to fund shortage. At that time, there were onlythree clubs involved, failing to win the market. In the 2008 Beijing Games, China won three gold, two silver and three bronze medals in badminton, making Chinese people more enthusiastic about the sport. Stars like Lin Dan and Zhang Ning also help win badminton fans' heart. According to source who declined to be named, the league needs over 20 million Yuan (about 2.8 million U.S. dollars) for its operation and the sponsorship has been guaranteed. Li Yongbo, head coach of Chinese Badminton Team, added: "We had hoped to relaunch the league before the Beijing Olympics but at that time we were in great pressure preparing for the Games, so we aborted the plan. Now the Games were over and the market is mature." If the league is relaunched, it means China will have to give up some international tourneys even those providing world ranking points. "You can not burn the candle at both ends," said Li. "We mush give up some international tournaments. But we will find the balance point." Liu noted that the league, as a competition stage for the Chinese badminton players, serves the Olympics. He added that the league will also help prevent some top athletes from going abroad to play or teach. "Once they find there is a top league at home, they are willing to stay to make a living," he said. "And this will also make more and more Chinese parents let their children play badminton since they can see the hope through the league." Source: Xinhua -------------------- good news for LCW, TH and PG, they would benefit from less chinese in international tournaments
Professional Badminton League in China there has been many news about its making... latest news is that the first private badminton club is just been set up in Tsing Dao... seems there is a good development, hope this could become the EPL or NBA of badminton world, considering the popularity of badminton and the commercial commitment to badminton in China... anyone have any update / inside stories???
seems they have resolved the first hurdle, LYB, who used to be worrying about the impact to the national team... http://sports.sina.com.cn/o/2009-05-28/12094403750.shtml on the sponsor, with Li Ning's commitment to badminton sport and the achievement of the Chinese national badminton team, it really helps to draw commercial powerhouses, at least in China, to finance the league... trust all our badminton lovers would wish this league could be successful, and it would help more badminton players, not only from China, but from all other countries, in committing to badminton career..

thanks ctjcad. I did search for similar threads before creating this thread but failed to find them... maybe forum admin could combine this thread to the previous ones...
thanks a lot drift.. i'm really exciting about its making and keen to see the team make-up... would be great if they also allow non-Chinese players to join the clubs...
These are what we know so far. It is going to start right after the National Games in October. It is a mixed team format, a la Sudirman Cup. There will be a qualifying tournament first to decide the final six to eight teams in the league. QingDao just lauched the first pro club in China, with Ma Jin, etc. No other clubs have officially formed yet. Some provinces will join force to create more competitive clubs. The strong provinces will form their own clubs. The mixed team format is okay for the first year. Since it would limit play time to the elite players only, some other format will be required going foreward.
That is possible... just like in the NBA and the club-soccer world... I suppose not too many Chinese clubs really need a lot of non-Chinese players. Pretty much like in the NBA, the best players are most probably from the home country, ...since China's prowess in badminton is almost like the USA's prowess in basketball... I think maybe names like Taufik Hidayat, Peter Gade, Lee Yong Dae will add 'popularity points' for whichever Chinese club that hires them... Names like Roslin, Sho Sasaki, Chetand Anand, Donna Kellogg, Anthony Clark, etc. won't add much...
i just wonder if the national bodies will let their top players like LCW, TH, PG, LYD, MK etc join the league as it may disrupt their centralised training.
TH is not part of the PBSI centralized training ground anymore. He is an independent INA pro... Peter Gade has always been an independent pro... I don't think DEN's program is similar to China's and Indonesia's...
