So starting today I have been going to badminton tryouts for my school. When we were doing drills I noticed that my smashes weren't complete. When I tried to smash they became overhand clears. Is there anyway to perfect my smashing? I keep getting owned because I can't smash properly.

Is your contact point off? The contact point should be high and in front of you. Plus more in front of smashes(I believe). Also are you pushing down on your wrist enough? Check out this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8QlW8_PdYbw Teaches about smashes better. Remember, everyone sucked at one point in their lives. Even Lin Dan!

Oh. I use my whole arm instead of pushing down my wrist maybe that's why. Thanks so much both of you.

Be wary of your contact point. Try to get on top of the shuttle.

No problem, tell me how it goes after you go on the court and try it again. It will take a while, at first you may even miss the bird.

your smash is becoming overhead clears? There could be many areas wrong in your technique. Frankly the best way would be to SEARCH the forum. Advanced Search > Titles only.. You can be sure that smash techniques are extensively covered before here.

Also a useful way would be to post a video of your smashing here
