2009 May 10: BWF President Election

The next Badminton World Federation (BWF) president will be elected on 10-May-2009 at a congress in Guangzhou, China.

Andrew Kam from KLRC has been nominated. NST Online Sport interviewed Andrew Kam.

I agree with what he said "Professionalism is the key and we have to take cue from tennis and how ATP and WTA are so successful".

    Cheers... chris-ccc

Unfortunately Punch was knocked out by Kang, no thanks to the heavy arm of Msian politics.

Now another "more acceptable" Msian heavyweight ($$$) will contest Kang for the title.

This will provide rather interesting tidbits for us in between baddy tourneys! :D

Hopefully badminton will end up the winner! :p

Kang Young-joong is not a millionaire.
In fact, he is a trillionaire... in Korean terms!

Dr Kang is one of South Korea's richest people.
His net worth (USD 750 million) is KRW 1,175,250,000,000.
    That's 1.175 trillion Korean Won :p

He owns the Daekyo group, the world's biggest name in after-school private education. A while back, he also acquired Fermat - the huge online education firm. Last year, he abandoned retirement to re-work Daekyo after it began losing business momentum.

    Daekyo means 'big lesson'.
That's why it's ominous whenever Dr Kang decides that someone must be 'taught a lesson' :D

But Korean trillionaires or billionaires have all tanked this year. Malaysian millionaires are not as badly affected as Koreans, thanks to its exchange control barrier.

I hope he didn't put his money in Citicorp shares or in US Equities in general... :p I wonder how much money he had to inject into BWF these last few years. I have not seen any BWF financial statements for a while. They stopped posting those numbers... maybe too embarrassing [compared to FIFA etc.]...
