How important is wrist power in badminton? If your forearm is strong does it make ur wrist power stronger? As you all know that when striking a shuttle we make use of the wrist action as well as the swing. Is it good if i can just use the wrist and get the shuttle to the base of the court without swinging?

The proper use of the wrist is of vital importance whether in a smash, a drive, a flick, drops, etc. In doubles the use of the wrist in defence can be devastating, with the smasher and his partner not knowing where the smah return is heading for.

ah yes i agree with the return of smashes. The entire power of the wrist comes from the forearm? So we work on the forearm to increase wrist strength?

So would wrist curls using just a 45 lbs bench press bar would help in gaining strength in your wrists. Say for 2 sets each, compromising of 10 reps?

That is just the foundation because you need the correct technique.

For your 1st question: wrist and forehands are 50% of your strenght because without it you can't transfer power from racquet to shuttle

And I assume the other 50% comes from the swing? The power of the swing comes from the trunk? I think Peter Rassmusen said smth like that on his jump smash vid on youtube

There are many ways of using the wrist. Generally, if you disregard the body dynamics, there are 3 major pivot points in a shot, namely the shoulder, the elbow, and lastly the wrist. The coordinated timing and sequence of the three is very important. If you need more power you need to use all three; slighly less power but with more deception you use more of the forearm and wrist; and lastly with the greatest deception (the way Zhao Jianhua did it) very little arm movement is used, just a short, sharp snap of the wrist. As a matter of fact you can try this out yourself. When returning a hard smash, delay your shot and then snap your wrist with little or no forearm movement across the net. This deception and incredible speed of the smash return will leave your attackers dumbfounded.

The other 50% comes from bio-mecanic of the body. Mainly:

    1)legs pushing on the ground
    2)abdominals
    3)shoulders

Your wrist makes sure that your power doesn't blow your joints and it gets transferred to the bird more efficiently; better efficiency is almost always better than better strength (if you're a human).

Ah yes I see that the entire body is used. Based on my trainings and testing i realized that wrist does contributes alot though the swing does make a significant difference. I'm having problem using my trunk.
