In a sense, you're right. Guess I have to agree with Alan and perish the thought that any Olympian would trade their gold medals for anything. But, to be exact, it has everything to do with the rewards and recognition that accompany it than the medal itself which is worth very little, comparatively speaking. Just ask any of the retired Olympians in dire need trying to sell their gold medals in the open market, many of whom didn't even get any interested or serious buyer.
