Taufik Hidayat at the 2009 Swiss Open

TH is seeded 7 in this tournament. He is in the top half of the draw, together with LCW(1) and PG(4).

Round of 32: He will be facing Ville Lang [FIN]
Round of 16: Sho Sasaki [JPN] or a qualifier
Quarter-Finals: An expected match between TH and LCW

At the 2009 All England, TH was defeated by LCW at the Semi-Finals (just 3 days ago). If TH can defeat LCW here at the Swiss Open, he would be expected to face PG at the Semi-Finals. At the 2009 All England, TH defeated PG at the Quarter-Finals.

So here we are again interested in how TH can progress through the many rounds.

LD(2) is located in the bottom half of the draw. It is expected that LD will reach the Finals.

Will there be a 'Taufik Hidayat vs Lin Dan' Final at the 2009 Swiss Open?

I predict that Taufik would meet a chinese player (Weijie Gong) in the round of 16. I think it should be a close match and Gong may win without any surprise.

2009 Swiss Open: Expecting Taufik vs Gong Weijie at Round of 16

    .
Yes, Gong Weijie has been playing well lately.

    GWJ would probably defeat...
    (1) Jan Vondra at Qualification Round 1
    (2) Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk at Qualification Round 2
    (3) Sho Sasaki at Round of 32
before challenging Taufik Hidayat at the Round of 16.

This GWJ-TH match would be a tough one for Taufik.

Last time in China Open, Taufik whipped GWJ

Hopefully if GWJ can make it this time, he will be much better.

GWJ beat PG twice last year in the Japan open & the Hong Kong Open super series. Both times were close. GWJ won in the 1st round of the Japan Super series 21-17, 23-25, 21-18. In the Hong Kong series he won in the round of 16, 12-21, 22-20, 24-22.

Sho lost to GWJ in the recently completed German open in straight set, 21-15 & 21-18. So if GWJ is true to form he should be able to overcome Sho. If GWJ can beat Taufik he may be a treat to LCW. (By the way GWJ easily beat Li Yu in recent encounter ).

i apologize if im beling a little pessimistic...but i doubt taufik will reach the semi...i deliberately went to see taufik play in birmingham and was utterly disappointed by the way he played against LCW...
based on what i saw that day, taufik did not have any confidence facing LCW...as if he didnt want to win the AE title, very disappointing...but i truly hope he can turn things around in swiss open...

In the rounds before the AE SF, TH was playing well

    .
In the rounds before the AE SF, TH was playing well. So said many BCers who watched him played.

Perhaps what TH said in his blog is true; that LCW was just too good for him on Semi-Finals Day.

Taufik can be tough to beat on his day. I think if he keeps at it, he might start to get his form back with a few more physical outings. His desire may rekindle if he gets beaten too many times. As the saying goes, when it gets tough, the tough gets going.

TH should be able to beat VL in straight set. Not so sure if he can do that against GWJ or Tanongsak though. Depending on his stamina level, it can be a firefight against LCW in QF....or a repeat of AE SF.

2009 Swiss Open: Expecting Taufik to face Lee Chong Wei at the Quarter-Finals

    .
Yes, we could predict that LCW could get to the Quarter-Finals.

And, assuming that TH can defeat VL, and predicting that GWJ can progress into the Main Draw, then TH will need to defeat Sho Sasaki or GWJ in Round 2, before we arrive at another 'Big Match' at the Quarter-Finals: The "TH vs LCW Rematch".
