Why would GWJ defeat of sho be on the upset list? GWJ beat Sho in the recent German Open by straight sets 21-15, 21-18.

    1)Round 1 : China’s XU Chen/Zhao Yunlei (WR# 38) beat Taiwan’s CHENG Wen Hsing/FANG Chieh Min (WR# 21), 21-19 21-15

Xu/Zhao has notional points of 46800 (use http://www.badmintoninternational.net/notionalcalculator/notcalculator.aspx to calculate) while Cheng/Fang has 31050 (http://www.internationalbadminton.org/ranking_ms.asp?id=5) WR points. If based purely on WR, then yes, it is an upset. But I can argue that Xu/Zhao has a very high notional rank, so it was not an upset.

It's like KKK/Fairuz has no WR at all, but a very high notional rank, which is much more realistic.

Xu Chen/Zaho Yunlei arent exactly a new pair. They won a GP Gold title in 2008 (either Macau or Taiwan I forgot). Does the notional points take into account the latest tourneys, as of last week?
Notional points for just "unranked" pairs or new partnerships would perhaps be better.

In any case, if you want to do the notional points, by all means - can do for the MD, WD, XD dept & post. :D:p

it is not predicted, because it is a 50-50 match. Moreover, WYH's ranking is much more lower than WL.

Looks like there is another confusion here:

Since the WR is updated on every Thursday, results on round 1 (Wed) is based on the old WR but round 2 onwards (Thu-Sun) is according to the latest WR.

The argument will be: The same WR (the ones before Thu) should be used.

Therefore, WYH was ranked #17 before Mar 12th (Thu) and #11 after Mar 12th.
Since the draw is made based on the old WR, the old WR should be used throughout the entire tournament.

Another solution is to ask BWF to update the WR on every Monday. I have written to the BWF regarding to this issue a few months ago and their reply was that they are not working on weekends and they need a few days to update the WR. **Fainted**

    Note: WR=World Rankings
