Long way to go..we have to wait for him to be 30s and see whether that guy can still play.

I got to say, Choon Hann cannot go up further, he has reached the limit, but would like to see another player from Malaysia who has fighting spirit like his.

Whether it is elite back up or elite, we need to do justice to that word, elite. And by the way, elite is the correct spelling, not 'elit'. There is a difference just like simulation exercise and stimulation exercise.

And we have another category for those in between the back up elite and elite??? I wonder what is this category called??? Another 'elite' something,eh?

If those 4 are what we called the back up elite, we need serious help then. Do we have a back up to the back up elite squad???

Is it a development problem? Are present MAS juniors being restricted in opportunities that t'fore restricts their senior development?
is it really true a 'generation gap' has occurred in talent?
Look at HH & KBH for instance. For an example, KBH have been with the national team for 10 years. Imagine for 10 years we are still keeping this dead horse. Isnt it not a wonder why we dont see any new shuttlers coming through?

Generation gap?? There is no excuse. We have the best of everything when it comes to foreign coaches, facilities, support and infra, incentives etc etc. Plus badminton is a well received sport in the country.

The current batch? Not generalizing, but they are all above average shuttlers.

Ah ha, I see you've been following the developments of the back-up squad though you're all the way in HK .
If they're sent to few major tourneys only(happened in 2007, 2008), they cant improve their WR-> cant break into main draw, etc. The other points were discussed last yr.

This year, due to global economic slowdown, there's a budget cut across the board, -> less tourneys for all, from elite to juniors( i.e. BJSS,etc). The younger players(Chan Kwon Beng et al) get less opportunities than the seniors.
That's why some of us think Zulfaldi's dad was smart to sign him with KLRC.

Worry about us first before you want to worry about China not being able to find another LD. China know what they are doing, the major titles in their cabinet is testimony that they can produce results. We just need to look at ourselves first and please dont be deluded with our CWF beat DPY and TCS beat Lu Yi etc etc. Do note our juniors or so called 'elite' shuttlers are now in their early 20s already, do you see any breakthroughs from these bunch of 'elite' shuttlers??? Or you are still in happy land over them beating some chinese shuttlers here and there.

    Again, big picture ... please.

    Default There is still hope

Certainly, at this point of time there are no one from the backup that can replace Datuk Lee Chong Wei. We just hope that the backup squad can improve signifficantly within this couple of years to fill up the void that Datuk LCW will sooner vacant.

As it looks bleak currently, there is still one youngster that can still give some potential hope if any of our backup fails or other junio players fail.

Misbun Ramdan Mohmed Misbun, 17y.o ( Son of our legendary badminton maestro, Datuk Misbun Sidek)

Quoted from theStar newspapper dated 25th Feb 2009:

"Heading to the top: According to national badminton coach, Datuk Misbun Sidek, Misbun Ramdan Mohmed Misbun has all the ingredients of a top player because he was exposed to the sport of the highest level at a very young age".

Hopefully Datuk Misbun is right. No one can't get a much more better exposure like Misbun Ramdan as his father, Datuk Misbun and his uncles (the Sidek Brothers) Rashid, Razif and Jailani Datuk Sidek trains him, as he said to theStar:
"I think Iím lucky because all my life Iíve had great coaches. My uncles Rashid, Razif and Jalani have all trained me,Ē
and top of that, his regular sparring partner...who else, Datuk LCW himself
"Other advantages of Ramdan continuing his fatherís and indeed his whole extended familyís legacy is having Olympic silver medallist, Datuk Lee Chong Wei, as a regular sparring partner."

Currently with Nusa Mahsuri, hopefully Misbun Ramdan can spark some light beyond the tunnel in the future of Malaysia Single Badminton event as far as we are concern as well as contuining the great legacy left from his father and uncles. We'll just see

Surrounded by the best shuttlers won't guarantee you to be a good shuttler.
    So, do not generalizing.

Hey..i hope there'll be more exposure for him. Good to see him playing, while his father watching as a coach.
