Nguyen Tien Minh considering going to Singapore

The HCM City Badminton Federation has recently been criticised for not registering Tien Minh for the 2009 AE and Swiss Opens.

but the article says he's facing suspension for 2 years! that's crazy. Would the suspension have effect even if he went to singapore? it'd be a damn shame--he's superb. The HCM city sports admin seems awful....I wonder what the story behind it is.

He plays regularly at the Singapore Sports School :)

He is also humble enough to spend time sparring with the junior players.
It doesn't bother him at all that his game is an open book to many of them.

I've always liked him. Never gives up, and he seems to me to have an unusual tendency to do a lot of flat play. it'd be a great gain for singapore if they could pay him well enough. But anyway--wouldn't the BWF rule apply no matter where he is?

What the fuss on this drug testing required by BWF

    .
Don't understand what the fuss on this drug testing required by BWF.

Couldn't NTM just ask to have a drug test even though he is not participating in recent BWF tournaments?

I believe the drug test is random, one that is not scheduled by the player. This way it is easier to cast the net wider. I am sure both the Vietnamese association and the player himself know the rules.
This suspension puts a stigma on Nguyen. It is an indictment, one short of being caught testing positive.

Not agreeing to a HIV test doesn't mean one has AIDS.

He could have umpteen reasons to justify his stand.
Let's not hand out indictments on some whim and fancy

BWF is only saying that NTM is not available for drug testing

    .
IMHO, BWF is only saying that NTM is not available for drug testing. Hence, a warning of suspension.

NTM should say that he is available whenever BWF wishes to conduct the test. Then all problems should be solved. :):):)

I believe that the BWF requires a player to furnish certain information to the BWF periodically, which in this case is once every 3 months. This is necessary for the BWF to arrange random drug testing on the player. However, missing out once or twice should not warrant any suspension or even threat of suspension. It is only when the player has not reported such required information 3 or more times out of 6 times in a period of 18 months that any suspension can be imposed.
A suspension of 2 years may mean a breach of the 3 "missing" rule.

I too think BWF will not simply ban any player especially player like Nguyen who is the ONLY symbol for vietnam badminton. Banning Nguyen simply might as well kill Vietnamese interest in Badminton...

huangkwokhau ... Great to have you back. You have gone missing for 4 days and 4 nights. :p

Yes, I've got a feeling the NTM would stay in Singapore. Don't ask me why... It's just a feeling I've got from him.
