    Hi guys,

Im moving on from my old adjustable flying clamps onto some more modern ones.

Can anyone tell me which ones are better ?

There are these Yonex flying clamps from here:

    http://www.watdon.co.uk/wd-strings/

    Or black ones from http://badmintonstoreuk.com/accessories.html

Which ive also seen on ebay UK for a few pounds more.

Any recommendations would be great. Failing that Ill buy both and test

Which should I go for and can I get them cheaper elsewhere?

    buy both ...

the MBS is similar to Hi-Qua, the MBS owner informed me last time that his MBS flying clamp is made from similar vendor.

I have the Hi-Qua, also have the Yonex (from Watdon, the cheapest in the world).

I like Watdon, but once you add on VAT and postage (for strings under a tenner) then they dont appear cheaper than some online shops for the smaller items! I do like the fact they are cheap machines and free postage uk mainland! Very quick too

Sometimes with Centralsports you can add items at a bonus price if you spend over £100. I bought my clamps with club order for shuttles, think they were about £5.00 each.

Yonex clamps are good for the cross, HiQua types are good for main. If possible, 2 each. ;)

Personally i feel, the yonex's quality is far superior compared to the mbs ones. The yonex ones are very solid.grips really well. I would go for 3yonex clamps.:)

Ive purchased one Yonex clamp from watdon.co.uk and 2 MBS clamps from www.badmintonstoreuk.com. Ill use the small yonex one for the cross strings (and top cross) and the mbs ones for the mains. Ill report my findings tonight once ive strungs a racket.

So you are going to use 1 clamp for crosses? or combine them with the mbs clamps.

I have constant pulling machine so probably only the yonex clamp.

I tension, release clamp, watch to see if the weight drops any more then clamp up again on new tensioned string.

Sometimes I use two clamps, but never found a difference from doing so.

I too use a ecp machine. But i feel safer using 2 clamps on the crosses. For mains, i use 3.:D:DThe tension lost might be minimal, but i wouldnt want to risk the chance of the strings slipping.:):)

By the way, i feel the yonex clamps will slow you down a little(it affects me), the yonex clamp's spring is very hard, requires quite an effort to press it down, which i guess means that the yonex clamps grip much better:)

When you guys say 2 each, do you mean 4 clamps total? Using one HQ/MBS on each side when doing mains and two yonex together when doing crosses?

    2 Yonex + 2 HQ.

I use 2 HQ (+1 yonex at tie off) for mains, and 2 Yonex for cross, as I am using drop weight machine. Of course, your method of 1+1 on each side on main will also work, especially if you use crank machine.

Well Ive tested both Yonex and MBS clamps, and have to say I prefer the MBS clamps! They are easier to squeeze, and easier to insert in the mains and just as easy to insert in the crosses as yonex.

I find the block in the middle of the clamp on the yonex a little to square and bulky. On the MBS clamp they have rounded the edges off the internal block, and made them a few mm smaller. The yonex clamps size is nice though and fits well on the last cross string.

All in all a good buy on both counts, but my goto clamps will be the MBS ones.

It Feels like it would do because its so much stiffer to squeeze, but this is because the clamp is smaller than the mbs one. The mbs one has better leverage to squeeze on making it easier overall.

I found when stringing with both, that they had equal movement, but neither slipped.

So all in all found the MBS one alot easier to use one handed with having to move strings a little, or strain my fingers squeezing and sloting between mains.

MBS quoted as handling up to 30lbs, but having used the Yonex ones for several years, I would not trust them with anything over 24lbs or so.
Was thinking of getting MBS to compare - can anyone confirm that they will hold the higher tensions without slipping?
