    Hey guys,

Kinda need your help on string types and tension coz im kinda of a novice and im all confused with all the string and tension theories. And I'm looking to re-string my racket soon so yeahh..need advice!!!

    My current setup:
I'm currently on a Arc10 with BG66 on 25lb.Firstly,as a novice,I already can feel that the Arc 10 is a wonderful racket compared to other rackets I've tried which includes the AT900T.When I first got the racket,it was great. The smash, the sound it makes and control was nice. But as time goes by,i feel like the power has decrease somehow.Anyways,I am a lazy player so I tend to smash alot.So would like to ask you guys the following..

1)Should I change the type of strings to get the desired power? If yes, which one?

2)Or should i stay with the current strings but try different tensions?and which tension?

Honestly,i still like the current string and tension because the net play and smash is fairly good. But as i mentioned,i still need the edge in smashing without sacrificing control. So pls help!!!

hey thanks..didnt expect such a fast reply..okay will keep that in mind...

    another thing to ask..

    higher tension=?
    lower tension=?

    From what i know,lower tension=more power,higher tension=more control..true?

as a novice, 25lbs is enough, just make sure it is accuracy.
you can try YYBG80 ,well, maybe GOSEN R4X300,BS900 are also good strings for you

25lbs is too high for a beginner. 23lbs below is fine but i don't expect beginners to get much power out of 25lbs.

BG66 is about the most repulsive string save perhaps the NBG98. You mentioned you noticed the power has decreased slightly -- that is likely due to "aging" of the string as it gets used. BG66, IMHO, dies quite fast but it is good while it lasts.

If your main concern is power, you may try the NBG98 (I personally hate that string for being too slippery) or your only option may be to restring regularly with BG66.

I use the BG80 because I feel it is a good compromise. Good power (a tad less than the BG66), good texture/feel, and lasts long enough for me (4 months for the last restring).

You did like the BG66@25lbs so I will not change that at all.

always string with more tension than you're used to. The string looses tension just after 1-2 days. I used to have BG-65 strung at 22, after 2 days the power disappear completely. I think it mighta dip under 20.

Correct me if i am wrong
higher tension= faster shuttle speed/better control/need more strength.
lower tension= slower shuttle speed, need lesser strength.

But it boils down to preferences.:)

    high tension = more control
    less tension = more power
i segesst you restring your arc 10 with same strings at about 28 tension?
from what i read it seems your string tension went down so restring to around 26-28

The tension of string will always decrease 10% in a week
so 25lbs is equal to 23lbs in using.

I highly doubt it would decrease that much in a week but with a crap stringer than that is possible.

    you could ask professional player
they did't string the day before the game, but that day
just because the tension will decrease~~~~~~

hi, i think that for a novice starting at 22lbs is a good starting point, from there everytime you restring it you can adjust it until you find one you like. im using BG-66 at 23lbs, you might want to try that. i used a arc10 with that string and tension and i dont think it was appropriate

And that also depend on the string.
The Japanese string like BG80 and BG85,especially BG68Ti are easy losing tension
Strings with thick dia may decrease not too easy.......like BG65

In my mind, the strings made in Germany are better in this aspect

You should check on your facts about BG65. BG65 has the WORST tension loss

hope that you are joking with bg65 holding tension better than bg80, bg85 and bg68ti. to reduce poor tension-hold, bg65 needs to be pre-stretch.
if i agree that bg65 is the best tension holder compare to the other 3 ........ let me see what happen next here :D

    .........
That is not only my feeling, many of my friends also have the same opinion
It is more easy to lose tension with my racket in 26lbs vertical line wihile 28lbs in horizontal line in YY way not GOSEN's
