I have noticed that sometimes when people go to hit the shuttle using a over head stroke they do a little dance with their feet, tapping their feet two or three times on the floor. I was wondering is this good or bad?

some people do indeed do this little shuffling. it gives a sense of motion which according to my observation helps to gather momentum to return to the base, and it prevents you from getting 'stuck' to the ground after ur shot.obviously, exaggerating the movement will really hinder your shot making

firstly it can be done to warm up during the knock up.

Secondly it is generally done when you have plenty of time to hit a stroke (IE clearing to each other in warm up or high lift in doubles) as it enables the player to get in exactly the right position. You are basically moving to exactly the right position to hit an accurate shot & enabling you to time the follow through correctly.

Yeah, I do it for those exact reasons - you can make minute adjustments to positioning but the main reason for me is rhythm and timing.
