Default High intermediate players looking to play in Shen Zhen

    Hi all!
My girlfriend and I are looking for a group to play with in Shen Zhen. We will be there from Thursday 26 March until Sunday 12 April. Looking for a group of about our standard to play badminton and socialise with while we're there. My girlfriend speaks fluent Chinese so language is no problem! We play competition regularly and have had some non-professional coaching. We are very easy going and like to meet new people. Hope to hear from you soon!

    Regards,
    Andrew

    Hi Andrew,

You can find yourself some badminton events from the following site:
    http://www.szsport.org/bbs/index.asp?action=frameon
I am not sure their level though, you might have to contact them for details
Good Luck and tell me how is going in China.

    Cheers

    William

    Hi,
Thanks for the info. My gf had already visited the site you mentioned and managed to get a few contacts.

I have been in Shen Zhen for 2 weeks now and I must say that I am very happy with all the places to play here! We are located in She Kou, which is a bit far from most of the badminton halls, but we managed to hitch rides or take taxis to places not close to us.

Although there are many places to play, unfortunately, I could not really find anybody around my level to play. It seems that there are two main categories here, people who play professionally and/or who have trained professionally in the past (and so beat me hands down) or amateur players (who I usually can beat fairly comfortably). Although, I did manage to take a set off an ex-provincial junior!

I have to go now, but may give more info when I get back to Melbourne.

    Cheers,
    Andrew

    Hi William,
Thanks for the invite; we just arrived back in Melbourne today. Maybe if I ever go back to SZ/HK I'll keep an eye on this forum.

Didn't get to play much in SZ since my last post as we were busy with other appointments.

The best group that I managed to find was a group of amateurs called "Dr. Fly", which is the brand name of the company which runs the group. This company also produces shuttles (called Dr. Fly). Their strongest group plays at a hall above a car dealership and unfortunately I forget the name of the area. They have a relatively weaker group which plays in She Kou at the Welcome (wei kang) badminton centre.

This group plays in a few different locations around SZ.

There are lots of retired Pros(national team player or province team player) in different clubs .Maybe you played in different time...
Did you play with the sponsor of the group Dr.Fly ---Mr.Wu and Ms Zhang ? They are retired Pros...but I have to say , they are not among the top ones..

    Hi Markache,
I'm not sure who Ms Zhang and Mr Wu are, although I did play with the owner (an ex-pro from Taiwan) of the company "Dr. Fly" and their club coach. We managed to win at least half of our matches against the owner and at least half of our matches against the coach.

You're right, I'm sure there would be many pros wandering around, although they probably keep to themselves. The ones I did play against were awesome.

Have you ever had an opportunity to play with any of the ex-pros?

    Andrew
