    Hi all,

I am a beginner and playing badminton for last 12 months. I have been playing badminton for last 3 months using Yonex MP10 Light. Earlier I was using an unknown brand and that was a pretty heavy racket weighing 120gm unstrung.

Specification of my new racket is as follows:
Racket: Yonex Muscle Power 10 Light
    Specification: 3U - 4G, Even Balanced
    String: Yonex BG-65
    String tension: 22lb

I do smash very often. While smashing with MP10 I am feeling a jerk in the shaft as well as in the racket handle. Is that very normal in this type of racket? Sometime some smash are going like bullet but sometimes they are not, though using same technique and power. My racket is an original Yonex racket as per the shaft code & cone code verified by the veteran members of this forum.

No trainer or senior player was there to suggest me a good racket, while I was in the Yonex showroom where 35% less on the retail price was given. At first I liked the Yonex MP 22 Light but due to shortage of budget I was suggested by the dealer to buy MP 10 Light. And it cost me 30US$ after having 35% off in retail Price. Did I choose a wrong racket for a beginner like me? Do I need a head-balanced racket? I am very confused.

Well I am looking for something that is much better for beginner like me. Besides I want it in Isometric-head shape... Price should be within 90US$... Brand should be either Yonex or Ashaway... allowed maximum string tension must be 22lb or more.

Will you please help me to find a good racket having all those features?

Please suggest me if you have any kind suggestion for me.

    Thanks in advance.

Though I have seen the racket pic and all the good reviews here, but there is no SOTX dealer over my place...:( That's why I asked for Yonex or Ashaway brand...

Anyway's, thanks for your kind advice. Do you have any suggestion regarding Yonex or Ashaway Lines? Plz.

If you like head heavy which should help you on smashing then try the Armortec 50. I was thinking of MP29 light but couldn't remember if it was head heavy or not.

The price equivalent of W2 for yonex is a low end racket. The only problem is that a low end yonex racket will not perform near a W2.

I think the MP10 is a good choice.. Once you feel you get most of the smashes like "smash are going like bullet" then it may be time to look for a stiffer racket to produce even faster bullets :)

my friend has a MP29 and i tried it. It is head light so the smashing power is average while it is good at net and defense because it is light. This is a comparison to my MP100.

MP29 and AT300 are 2 different racquets. Depend on what you play (single or double) and your style (offense or defense), AT300 is more for single and offense player while MP29 is more for double and defensive player. AT300 better in smashing. MP29 is head light compare to AT300. Good for defense and control. Pick one according to budget and your style (or style you want). Nothing is as good as demoing the racquet. borrow at lease 1 from some one to try iy. If not, at lease take a few swing if you can.

well, comparing the MP29 to an AT500 is just unfair...

first off...the AT500 is much more expensive than the MP29...

second consider their extremely different attributes, the MP is even balance/mid flex while the AT is head heavy/stiff

Its not that the MP29 is any worse than the AT500, its just that the AT suites your style and technique more...

And on a final note, the MP is actually LIGHTER than the AT, i weighed the MP28 and 29 to be 95 grams while the AT 500 was 105 grams.

Hi what07! I have quoted these three opinions just to ask you: Should I go for MP 29 Light or AT 50?
    Thanks in advance.

AT if you want to have a stiff shaft and heavy head for smashing. MP 29 LT for defence/quick handling.

AT700 is out of your price range. The Apaca AMP series is heavy head and cheap so have a look into them.

After BG-65, BG-66 and BG-80 are good choices. Go for a tension somewhere between 18 and 24Lbs depending on how you feel about the tension you currently have.

MP 22 light I remember was okay. But you may as well stick with your racquet now. I thougth the muscle series is disappearing. I tried my friend mp 10 light and it feels like a brick lol! She had her's strung at 24lbs BG-66 but that's her backup racquet.
