Do you notice the black cap inserted in the holes surrounding the frame? The one where the string is inserted? I just bought this morning a carlton powerblade tour. Just tonight, I noticed that there's one string hole cap missing. Is this gonna make a big difference once I have this racket strung? The store where I bought it from is kind of far. Would it be worth the drive to have it replaced? Please reply ASAP so I can adjust my sched for tomorrow. Thanks
that 'cap' is called grommet. without it, the string will be cut by the frame. the stringer will replace one for you, f.o.c if he/she is kind
Grommet (saving to memory bank). Thanks Venkatesh exhaled a sigh of relief The grommet (aka, cap ) can be replaced? So I don't need to go back to the store? Thanks Thank you for the fast reply and for the info.
Yeah, people replace them all the time - eventually they can wear out or break and so, just need to be replaced. Even if the stringer asks you to pay, it won't be much at all - grommets are pretty cheap.
I haven't noticed my racket's grommet being replaced. Maybe because after my string snaps, I just cut it all the way and don't bother removing it. Then, I just leave my racket in the store and return after 1 hour to retrieve my newly strung racket. That's it.
Generally as a courtesy some stringers replace your grommets... they're generally a nominal cost; but I've known some stringers to charge for it, as part of "racquet maintenance" (like maintaining your car... oil changes etc) which is fine too! I'm cheap on my equipment so I usually turn my grommets 90 degrees everytime i need a restring, and replace it when its all ugly and squashed. Just as a side note... and more on topic. Ask your stringer to replace the grommet, if they cant or don't then just find someone who will. Some stringers will not do this, because it can be quite a bi... err... tedious to remove grommets if they don't have a degrommeting tool.
You may not replace them but they break relatively easily and severely damage string durability when they do so it's good to replace broken ones as soon as possible. It may be that you haven't broken any grommets or that your stringer has just replaced broken/damaged ones. I wouldn't worry anyway, I think you'd know if you did have broken grommets - the string durability would be awful.
There's such a thing as degrommeting tool? Wow! I still have so much to learn about badminton. How do you pronounce grommet? Is it grow-may as in like fish fillet? Or grow-met?
what colour do you want? just go to nearest hardware shop, pick a colour, buy a spray can. go home, take out all grommets, spray them with your favorite colour.
Yeah. And if we see someone with colored grommet, he's DonnyGan. And if we see racket manufacturers coming up with colored grommets, that idea could have probably been taken from this thread.
i don't see anything unusual about coloured grommets. i think it will be pretty cool to see green, blue, white grommets etc. just like replacement grips, they comes in different colors.
red, green, blue grommets during Christmas red and white during Valentine's day black and yellow during Halloween
