Do you really need shoes & clothing? I've just played with a bat and a shuttlecock and I've done fine. Of course, I don't play in sandals, I play in sports shoes, and I do fine. And, I wear comfortable clothing, loose and airy.
the clothing isnt as important a standard sports shirt or even a normal tshirt if its only recreational, but its when your actually playing a little more intensely and your sweating more and wearing normal tops will cook you (not literally ofc). normal shorts will be fine, but trousers and long shorts are restrictive on movement. shoes for recreational...... i guess trainers would be fine, but shoes are very important when playing more intensely due to the faster movement etc and if you only wear trainers the risk of injury is much greater.
Ahh, I see. I'm a sportish kind of person, as I said before. T-Shirt and Shorts, and my shoes are runners.
I'd say, no, you don't need it but if you do have it, it makes the experience of playing badminton nicer. Shoes are important, very important. Everything else is just nice to have; I don't think I'd be able to go without it though.
I thought you were talking about "clothing optional" badminton It's worth getting shoes that grip well indoors, but they don't have to badminton specific - the requirements for a good badminton shoe are pretty much identical to those for any other indoor sport. It's never worth paying for the (yonex) brand name in badminton clothing, as they're essentially no different to any other brand of clothing. If you actually like the way it looks though, I guess you might think that's worth paying the extra for. Personally I don't want to look like a "Yonex Clone".
You'll probably find it difficult to swim wearing your dinner suit . It depends on how comfortable and safe you want to be when you play Badminton. The tone of your thread suggests that it could be expensive to buy special shoes and special clothing to play Badminton. The answer is no. You don't need expensive shoes and clothing to play Badminton. But you'll need to think of comfort and safety. You said you play Badminton in sports shoes and wear comfortable clothing, loose and airy. Well, that's all you need. My question to you is: 'Have you tried going swimming wearing a dinner suit?" A dinner suit will cost you hundreds of dollars, but a pair of swimming trunks only cost you little. You'll probably find it more difficult to swim wearing your dinner suit anyway. .
Dear Master Chris, Are you sure? Some of the bikini cost more than $1,00 usd while my suit for my job interview only cost $450... But the bikini only looks good on some girls.

I hope u don't really use a "bat" to play Badminton... IMO a proper shoe is the most important piece of equipment in this game just due to fast pace of the game and so many other "feet burdening"movements. Last thing you want is a sore foot and an injury!!! What you wear on top and bottom is no biggy but still a skort(I'm assuming u r a female)would be very comfy and offcourse any top or just a bikini
'raises hand' i vote yes! and on topic i would say play with what you want... when i started it was just what i already had but shortly after i couldnt resist to buy everything now i buy pretty much everything new that comes out to 'try' to improve my game
