hi guys, i have a serious problem over here. the thing is my computer keeps hanging and lags all the time after i surf internet for a few minutes. :crying::crying::crying: i have no idea whats happening but can u guys help me on this? does that mean there's virus or malware that had been affected? its just like when i surf the net, the whole page and the WHOLE pc will just lag.! after a few minutes. hope u guys can help me on this. thanks.
First, you should empty out your browser cache; which include cookies, passwords, and temp files. Next, you need to do a (free) on-scan of your PC, such as: http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ http://support.f-secure.com/enu/home/ols.shtml Then do a second scan using another on-line scanner. Note, if you can't get to any of those sites, then you are definitely in trouble! :crying: That's a start! Cheers.
This sounds like an active program hogging the system. (It could be spyware or malware... but it need not be.) Since your problem begins when you are online, it could be some rogue script on a webpage. Certain scripts running on some webpages will cause your browser to hang and your system to run extremely slowly. In your Internet Options, revert to your default settings. This might or might nor solve your problem. If it doesn't, you can try running services.msc There, you can individually change a few settings. (This is not advised if you don't understand the settings.) By the way, do you have only a single hard disk drive? If you have more than one, there's another possibility.
U ate too much satay causing your PC to slow down is it? Try to check your process on what is hogging your pc. Or use process explorer to check for any unauthorised processes. Must be downloading too many horny stuffs. hehe..
George still hasn't replied - the virus has taken over his home! Use Linux - you won't have to do that at all.

quite weird enough, when i closed my bitcomet, a torrent download programme, i dont have so much lag problem. but the lag and freezing is still there sometimes
my current situation now is i had scan the whole pc and no virus no nothing. then brought the pc to the computer shop to check and see.. nothing also. then they said it could be maybe my pc has lots of files inside and all the files had been mixed up or some sort like that.etc. i suspect its the problem with the disk. but every folder and file still inside. btw, for a second, i thought of re-FORMAT the whole PC. what do you think? because the freezing and lagging problem still persists\ thanks
If your disks don't have much space left (if they are around 80% to 90% full), your PC will slow down and occasionally freeze too. You can try deleting what you don't need or copy rarely used files to another (portable) drive or DVD. It's worse if you haven't defragmented your hard disks for a long time. To defragment, you can use either the tools that come with Windows or the free and fast Defraggler. It's worst if the disk containing your OS is running out of space (and it gets really bad if it hasn't been defrgamented either). Not only is your system unable to operate at normal speed, your paging file is also getting strangled. There is one other reason for your problem (and this is a reason that most people overlook.) HDD connectors tend to come loose after a while - this happens very slowly but it happens - the loosening happens because of the vibrations from rapid spinning of the drives. If you know how to open your system's casing, here's what to do: 1. Switch off the power and pull out the power line 2. Get rid of any static electricity by grounding yourself on the metallic part of the casing 3. Open the casing 4. Look for the flat cables that connect the hard disk drives 5. Make sure they are firmly plugged in 6. Close the casing 7. Plug in the power 8. Switch on and run your browser. From the description of your problem, it is quite likely that your second hard drive (the non-OS one) has a loose connector
With the presumption that: (1) there are no viruses, adware, or malware (2) your hard drive has more than 15% space available (3) the computer shop ran some hard drive diagnostics and the drive is not failing, which includes surface scan for bad sectors (4) the computer shop also double check your motherboard is not failing You should backup any important data immediately. Since your PC was freezing / crashing frquently in the past, there is a good chance system files may have become corrupt or severely fragmented. It's probably best to wipe the drive clean, format, and reinstall the OS & applications. Also check for the latest motherboard BIOS updates & drivers. To minimize doing this every year, you can get a hard drive imaging utilities (like Ghost) which you make an image once you get everything working well. Six to nine months down the road, backup your data, restore the good image, update the operating system patches, make another image. Repeat six to nine months later using the second image. Cheers!
