Article by K.M. BOOPATHY (On 05-Nov-2011)
Lee Chong Wei will not cut down on his tournaments this year as he wants to have a healthy lead over his China rivals Lin Dan and Chen Long in the Olympic race.
Chong Wei is well aware that he can no longer sustain the same level of performance without quality preparation but he wants to ensure he has sufficient ranking points to maintain his World No 1 position before playing in fewer tournaments.
He has confirmed playing in the Hong Kong (Nov 15-20) and China (Nov 22-27) Opens and the World Super Series Finals in Liuzhou, China on Dec 14-18. The World No.1 may also compete in the Macau Open on Nov 29-Dec 4.
"My recovery rate is not as good as a younger player like Chen Long and I have to train harder and prepare longer for main tournaments," he said yesterday.
"I will push hard in the next few tournaments to gain more Olympic qualifying points before cutting down on tournaments,"
"Chen Long and Lin Dan are closing the gap on the world ranking and if I can earn sufficient points in the next three or four tournaments, I can breathe easy
"The focus next year will be on quality preparation and probably the right time to reduce on tournaments. I will play in the Malaysia and Korea Opens as well as the All England and the Thomas Cup qualifying rounds in the first four months.
"The Thomas Cup Finals will be held in May and I could play another tournament before the Olympics in August and that will give me plenty of time to focus on my training."
"Chen Long relies on his physical strength and it becomes difficult if my preparation is enough but I have learnt a lot from my two defeats to him.
"The defeats are also a blessing in disguise for me as it is not all about Lin Dan but I must also be prepared for Chen Long."

Will it be LCW or LD as WR1 during LOG 2012?
Many thanks for your offer but it is difficult to fulfill as we are not at the same place - you're in Melbourne and I'm in S'pore, unless you can find time to meet at a common venue, perhaps in London for the LOG 2012.

I was wondering why you are so sure that LCW will remain as WR1 before LOG 2012.
As of 8 Dec 2011, the three closest rivals, with the no. of points indicated against their names are:
http://www.bwfbadminton.org/page.aspx?id=14955
1 MAS
[MAS] LEE Chong Wei
99,147.30 Asia Malaysia 2 CHN
[CHN] LIN Dan
88,646.10 Asia China 3 CHN
[CHN] CHEN Long
81,690.00 Asia China
Which places LD 10,501.2 points behind LCW.
That also means LD must earn more than 10,500 points to catch up with LCW.
Is this possible or impossible?
Not impossible if LCW could not participate, or only able to do so in less subsequent BWF point scoring tournaments as a result of injury while LD remains fit and continues to win points.
Now if LD wins in some majors or becomes runner-up or enters the quarters or semis, how many points can he score? And LCW was unable to win or do better than LD in these events or even worse, was eliminated in the earlier rounds.
Here is BWF's world ranking points table:

*At the Olympic Games 3rd place will receive 9200 points. Fourth place will receive 8400 points.
All it takes is for LD to win a SS to greatly narrow LCW's advantage when LCW did not take part.
But in reality, LCW and LD will try to participate in as many SS from now till LOG to score more points. The higher their world ranking as No.1 or 2 will mean they do not have to meet each other in the early rounds and avoid the better players in their halves until later. The danger is that they can become fatigued or worse, sustain injury which can mean a non-appearance in the most prestigious of all tournaments - the LOG 2012!
Maybe someone can volunteer to research into the number of world ranking tournaments that LD and LCW will be participating before LOG. It will be interesting to note which are the ones that the two will likely meet in competition.

LCW's coach: Chong Wei, this our plan on how to beat Lin Dan. Blablablablabla...
LCW: OMG, I have loose to Chen Long in two tournament in a row!
LCW's coach: OMG, Chong Wei, change the tactics, I got a new plan to beat Chen Long. Blablablablabla...
LCW: OMG, please stop this! I'm confuse! Which plan should I use now?!!!
Probably, this is what LCW have to face. Right now, not just Lin Dan gonna intercept him but Chen Long as well.
Poor LCW.

TH to help LCW, while LD to help CL
.
LCW will ask for help from Taufik.

If Taufik can defeat Chen Long and only giving few points to him, then Kenichi Tago could end up as 2nd in Group B.
But then, Lin Dan will help Chen Long by giving even fewer points to Kenichi Tago.

Well I have taken a look at your #1 post and I found nothing concrete to substantiate your claim.

To claim that "China is no longer interested to have Lin Dan to regain his World No.1 position". " does not tally with what LD has been dishing out whenever he meets LCW.
LD wins most of the time!
And he even beats his teammate CL lately to try to regain his WR1 standing.
As I've said, LCW's position is now rather "precipitous" as he could fall suddenly not only to LD but to CL as well.

Taufik is not good. I do watch his game in the SEA Games.
He doesn't play good even though he played in home soil with all the berserk fans.
He is just over-age right now. He easy to get tired and he is not the player that we are used to watch in the past.
The same thing will goes to Lee Chong Wei and Lin Dan.
But I heard that Lin Dan will retired when he reach 35. lol
