    Hello,
I was looking at previous results in the All England Open and noticed that in 2002 the scores in the finals were first to 7 points best of 5 games.
    For example:
    Men's Doubles
    7–2, 7–2, 1–7, 7–3

Does anyone know why the scoring was like that?
    Thanks.

2002 eh? That year, the BWF tested a new scoring system which was the 5 match X 7 points
However it was soon abandoned for the previous system .. tournaments in 2002 up to the 2002 commonwealth games used the system of 5X7.

    Hope that explains your question:)

    Yes it most clearly did.
Yeah that scoring system was no good.

    Agreed
However, i still feel the current scoring system is just too short
games barely go over an hr compared to tennis which often go past 1 hr per match i think

    Maybe a 5X21 format? :p

I see where you're going with this, but in tennis the players have a lot more breaks to rest. Also, badminton is much more tiring than tennis. I believe it'll be too much for the players to be playing that much. You want the top players and players for that matter to continue playing for as long as possible. 5x21 is too much.

5*21 would be epic but I have no idea how many players could last that long. You could incorporate more breaks (like tennis) but IMO, that would make badminton less appealing to spectators.
