As reported by KOMPAS, Hendri K.Saputra/Hendra Wijaya (SIN) ; Sanave Thomas/Rupesh Kumar (IND) will come.

One article about this upcoming bdm tourney, taken from the Jakarta Globe (April 15, 2009) :

    Ami Afriatni

Former Doubles Great Lends Name to New Event

When Candra Wijaya said he would do anything to help Indonesia develop badminton and its players, he was not kidding.

The former national team men’s doubles standout announced on Wednesday the formation of the Candra Wijaya Men’s Doubles Championship. Backed by several sponsors, including sports apparel company Yonex, the tournament will take place April 29 to May 2 at the Asia-Afrika Badminton Stadium in Senayan, Jakarta.

“The championship is focused on men’s doubles because Indonesia has won most of its top titles in this event,” he said. “I too won a gold medal in Sydney in this event. That’s why I hope we can find new talented players as a result of this championship.”

Candra, 33, said the championship will offer total prize money of Rp 200 million ($18,400), plus a gold-plated trophy for the winners. The tournament will feature Indonesian club and national team shuttlers, as well as international players from countries such as Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, India and the Czech Republic.

Players will compete for titles in under-16, under-19 and open divisions.
Candra said he hopes he can help develop pro players through the championship, as few Indonesian players are able to continue their careers as professionals after leaving the national training center.

“Players from other countries such as Germany, Denmark and Japan started to go pro years ago, so why can’t we? I think it is time for them to start,” said Candra, who still has one more year on his contract with the Tonami Club of Japan.

He will also try to elevate the tournament to an official Badminton World Federation event to lure more international players.

In addition to the tournament, Candra said he will also establish an international-level training center to aid prospective shuttlers. The facility, to be called the Candra Wijaya International Badminton Center, will encompass 5,000 square meters in Serpong, Tangerang, Banten.

It will contain nine courts and Candra said he hopes it will be finished by the end of this year.
