just got myself a couple of new toys.

got a pair of Yonex flying clamps as well as a mybadmintonstore (MBS) flying clamp. the MBS flying clamp is very similar to the HiQua one.

i will post a review once i manage to spend some time with them.

Kwun, are those MBS clamps all metal? or is that plastic handle?
It looks metal, but just want to confirm.
My HQ clamps are all clangy metal... not that it might make a difference, but I'm assuming the metal gripper would hold better...
    I was merely just curious.

Good choice on the YY flying clamps.
They're more compact, but boy do they ever deliver quite the pinch!!!
Not even a hint of slippage whatsoever!

Please do let us know how the MBS clamps fair.
    Thanks!

edit: How tight are those MBS clamps? (eg. hard to squeeze?)
I remember trying someone's alpha clamps which were pretty much the same as the HQ clamps before, they hold really well too!

MBS look as if they will be metal, at least I'd hope so!

Yonex clamps are infact very sturdy and doesnt slips even after long usage.

for all intent and purposes, you can consider the HQ and MBS clamps to be siblings and should be identical.

the whole body of the MBS is metal except for a coating of paint that you see.

the Yonex is metal structurally but plastic on the human end.

the MBS ones are easier to squeeze. the Yonex one is much tighter. it will be very good for training finger strength. ;)

i will post a comparison of the Alpha, MBS and Yonex once i get some time using them.

Yonex should seriously consider a longer length version of its flying clamp (double length).

A wider version is also great for gripping those new NS, AT and Arc Saber patterns around the last couple of cross strings.

I tried pinching my eagnas set of clamps which are more or less cousins of the mbs/alpha/hq clamps and at the same distance from the pivot point as the yonex they seem just as hard, so given that I would think they have the same holding capabilities, but the yonex ones hold like a rock. Has anyone else tried this? I second that yonex should make some lengthier clamps.

that, and yonex needs to hire kwun and dink on their marketing division for product photos. nice shots kwun

Thanks for the Pro of Pros to come up with the great quick test on the clamp. I think we might be able to ask Kwun to do a clamp test on all different brand when a fly clamp will fail. However, we do need a electric tensioning head like the Wise one that will display the tension while it pull. I will pitch in 2 packs of BG65 string if any one can propose a method for test and ready to test too.

You can do a test on an excess string no need to use a pack.

    Fantastic, thanks!
LOL yes! so true, I remember the first time getting these newer revised flying clamps... tougher to squeeze, and great exercise for fingers!
I remember when I was first taught to string on an old drop weight machine, my coach had an old set of YY flying clamps that were green or blue in colour... cant remember now, but they also held very well too!!

You know what they say about those with small hands GrandMaster Pete?
That they need small flying clamp to hold string :p
Although it would be cumbersome to handle around a badminton racquet...

In hindsight I totally agree though... something wider, and longer would be better... the size does matter.

    Thanks for the info!!
I only squeezed them a few times initially to try out the spring.
Not sure if YY or any other manufacturer has any tennis flying clamps that might work on badminton strings... I think yy just has the one set ac607 i believe... cant remember its been so long now... getting old, memory fading

    Too true!!!:D

Yonex clamps are good investment if you are planning to use it for the long haul. Very durable and long lasting.

GrandMaster SH, are you testing for when the spring falls apart? or are you proposing to test when the string slips? :p

I am thinking breaking out the old sharpie marker to do the test might help.

Someone with a wisehead, or constant pull electric, and some fixed clamps might work without having to resort to stringing a racquet, however I cant really visualize how you would setup the test without measuring using a ruler at the very least if you did not string up a racquet...

At least if you strung a racquet, you can test multiple clamps, and their holding capability all on the same racquet, different rows of strings, however using bg65 might inherently yield some wonky results since it stretches so much (without pre-stretch & or double pull)

Great choice on the Yonex clamps Kwun. They have never failed me in the 2 years I've been with them. The Hi-Qua/MBS ones are great as well. I use MBS ones for the mains and the Yonex ones for crosses.

I am proposing to test the max hold of clamp. Given that Kwun might have more than 2 brands clamps later on. I would like to see which one holds tension the best. I could not be an objective tester now a day.

Im in kwun's 'hood, i can throw in an eagnas one for good measure, although mbs/hq are the same price or better.

doing some kind of hold limit test is something that was on my mind. as for the methodology, i think we can brain storm it a little bit.

certainly a electronic head will be very nice, unless SH donate one of those too, it will be tough for me to get hold of one. ;)

the other missing piece is the eagnas clamp. i don't have one. we believe the eagnas is also the same as pros pro. that will complete all the popular clamps in the market and make the testing much more valuable.

illusionistpro maybe you and i can get together and we can do the testing?

I have already tested the Yonex, MBS and Pro's Pro clamps for slippage. The results were posted somewhere on this forum a while ago. The order of clamping strength is YY>MBS>PP.

Although the difference was obvious, for a more precise and accurate test, Pete (*ahem* where have you been hiding?) we could go over the WISE'ed setup at Optiblue's place. This is also where tests were done on string breaking tensions of various types.
