I bought the new version cab 20 sp (3UG5) last december and got it strung 25x27lbs. After 4 months the string doesn't feel nice anymore so I cut it off. After close inspection to the top of the frame i found it collapsed at 11 and 1 o'clock position. The frame deformed in between the grommets. As now i already move up to 28lbs I think it's better to keep the racket as a display unit only :crying: It's a shame because it's such a nice racket to play with...

Seems like the 3U version doesn't inherit the durability of it's older cousins... wonder if any 3U cab 20 users are having the same problem...

    2 things.
    1) 28 lb is a little high for Cab20 new or used.
    2) Stringer might have something to do with the crack since it is cracked both 11 and 1 o'clock.

    1. What i meant by new here is it's the latest version of the cab 20. From my experience with older versions of cab 20, cab 9 tour, and cab 30... 28lbs is not an issue at all.

    2. I've use the same stringer over and over again with no problems... could be this is the first time he screwed up... ohhh... i don't know...

Unless sending it in for warranty replacement from Mars is too expensive. Why not give it a try?
OK... So are we talking crack on both 1 and 11 o'clock or a crack from 1 to 11 o'clock?

Yepp... old Cabs are 2U... latest version of Cab 20SP comes in 3U as well...

The cracks are on 1 and 11 o'clock position, in between the grommets.

to clarify, cab20 original has 3U version. they are just harder to find.

i strung my original cab20 (new logo, circa 2002 or so) 2U one up to 34x36 and it held, but i think barely. i wouldn't do anything more than ~28 on a 3U. the frame looks rather flimsy.

maybe you can post some pics to share with us?

Just trying to jog my memory. Are the earliest Cab20 1U (very late 80's)? I sort of have this impression that those early Cab20 felt heavier than the 2U rackets.

    yes, I own U.:p:p
3U cab20 is available in JP but as 3U, i wouldnt use it, cab 20 was designed to perform in u and 2u. 3u was an after thought. When i said original cab20, i mean with gold end cap. The green caps i considered them as reprints, to ride on the fame of the true original cab 20

FYI the new 3U version also has black/gold end cap. I agree that cabs are best in 2U. My broken Cab 20 is the only 3U yonex I own.

    Guess I'll ditch the idea of getting a 3U Cab 30... :)

cab30 has different material than cab20. Try the 2u cab30 instead.

Ahh... now I'm green with envy. At least I'm not senile :D:D.

Green: I'm using the 3u Cab30. I do like the racket but my stringer doesn't like the idea of it at any tension above 28lbs. Mine is currently strung at 26lbs w/ BG80 and is doing well.

Most stringer will deny 28lbs but that's the tension I prefer. So far my 2U Cab(s) has no problem taking 28lbs also with BG80.

It seems to me that 3U cab 20 does have such a problem.
