Panda Power: A Racket That Can Take 40lbs. String Tension!

I believe master Oldhand is indicating you need to swing harder to utilize the higher tension 26lbs+ tension on your friends racket. Over the last year ive gone from 22/23 lbs up to about 25 lbs currently. I jumped to 27 and it was stiff as a board. You definitely need a harder swing to use higher tension. This doesnt mean the PPP wont be the racket for you, just not at those tension.

Dan, any updates on the PPP aka Thunder? How is this run of prototypes compared to the last overspec runs?

When at OCBC, I had a go with the Panda's new toys - the Thunder and the Pandamonium. (So did Halim Heryanto and the senior players at the club.)

There's every reason to be pleased with the prototypes.
The Pandamonium is not for me but I'll take the Thunder any day.
Compared to my Nanospeed 9900, the Thunder is a great racquet.

I wish the Panda had strung the racquets higher.
The two test racquets were strung pretty low.

I'm not sure you tried the Thunder, I remember you tried both the 85g and 88g PPP.

It had this little taped label on the shaft.
And it said 'Thunder'

I wasn't aware that it was strung at 30 lbs
It felt much lower when alternated with my 900.

I felt the string bed on your 900, it felt a bit looser than my Thunder, what string was that?

Nope, I didn't have the labels wrong.

Regardless, I decided to go ahead and produce two rackets. Both rackets emphasize the following:

1) Durability in both the frame and shaft.
2) Stability and mobility with relatively very good to excellent power.


I decided that I am not sure of the names yet but it's going to be using the "Thunder" frame and shaft just the way it is, add USGs and ultra-premium grommets. This will be an ultra-stiff, advanced player and/or wristy player with compact swing type racket.

The second racket is for the masses, a much more forgiving, all-around racket. Basically a toned down version of the Yonex Ti10, more flexible and forgiving, less head heavy but with stronger frame.
