I live in Mississauga, and I don't know where I can play badminton. Any suggestions? I heard some community centres have. Can you name some that are pretty good, and please talk a little about your review/opinion on that community centre. And is the YMCA pretty good (the mississauga branch)? Or does it have a badminton court at least? So yeah, just looking for a place to play. Suggestions/reviews please.
Frank Mckenie and River Grove community centres have drop in badminton I've been to Frank and that place is alright, 4 courts and has pretty good players, most of them are high schoolers. I've never been to river grove, so i can't really comment anything about their badminton drop in ^^
I play at the YMCA Mississauga branch, its like what u get at most places you'll go in mississauga, its hardwood floors. A ymca membership is 28 for U15, 40 for 16-21 and more if ur older.... Check it out for youself since im not sure. the competition is basically high school with the occasional university students returning, itll have good games, but the ppl there arent that friendly... its basically if you are good, they will acknowledge you... if u are not, they wont play with you. fridays are packed, saturdays no one goes, sunday has 6 courts, which is good Another place is steven lewis s.s on saturdays (5pm -10pm) and sundays from 3pm -8pm. its 5 hour drop in for 5 dollars. competition level is good, and there are about 3-6 courts reserved for drop in, not like Rick Hansen, who would only give out one court and rent it to everybody. btw, all courts are highschool badminton courts (hardwood)
The gym in YMCA isnt the best though. I would reccomend playing with Badminton Birds or ya, at Stephen Lewis. Stephen Lewis has a relatively newer gym btw.
do you guys know when the drop ins are for Frank Mckenie and River Grove community centres and how much they cost. Is Stephen Lewis still going on? Any nights during the week. As I have two kids and it's hard to get out during the weekend. Thanks in advance.
For Frank Mckenie, the drop ins are on friday 7:30pm - 10:30pm and saturday 8:30am - 10:30am. If you're under 18 it will cost you around $6 on fridays and 3.50 (i think don't take my word for it) on saturdays. Its better to play on saturday mornings cus there's not a lot of ppl who come to play compared to fridays. River grove's drop ins are on friday nights, that's all i know
what is the skill level? as i would consider myself a 37 year old that hasn't played in 16 years and is trying to get back into shape?
hmmm most of the players i've seen on friday are intermediate - advance and a majority of the players are high schoolers. On saturdays, there's more adults around your age who play just to work out and few high schoolers who are beginners - intermediate. Well, that's what i've seen last time I went there which was two years ago. Well, in case you're interested and need someone to play with, I'll be at frank this saturday.
I might go on Friday, but most likely attending on Saturday as you have to wait around way too much on Friday,
