^^Not bad..^^ ..if each one of those companies donate say, about $10,000, then we'd have at least a $60,000 prize money tourney. That's more than the previous yrs' prize money for the U.S. Open GP tourney..
what the format like? is it 3 MD matches + 1 WD + 1 MX match? how does one know which division one is in?
That's right Kwun, 3MD+1XD+1WD. Grab a few guys and gals from your work and join in. Maybe BC can sponsor this annual event and make it BC-BACBC.
we are looking into forming a team now. let's see if we manage to get enough players. it was also confusing as the description says min 3 men + 3 women. that assumes the women also plays MD? i saw from the yahoo group list that says a player cannot play more than one event. that doesn't seem possible with just 3 men + 3 women. i also wonder if allowing free ranking of the pairs will be ok. Thomas Cup do restrict ordering according to international ranking, btw. as for BC sponsorship, what kind of $$ are we talking about?
Hi Kwun, for "official" information please email bayarea_badminton_league@yahoogroups.com as the tournament is ran by a committee of member representatives. I can only give you unofficial answers that I know. Since there are 5 doubles, one team needs to get 3 wins at the minimum, therefore min of 3 men (1MD + 1XD) and 3 women (1XD + 1WD) if you can win all the matches. Of course to play all 5 matches, you will need 7 men and 3 women minimum. Since this is an all day event, you will need backup players as well. Hope I did not confuse you more. No pre-ranking of the MDs. This tournament is actually the reincarnation of last year's Bits And Chips tournament, top 4 teams from last year are spread across the 4 divisions, the rest are by drawing. I hope you guys can join. It will be fun.
thanks for the clarification. we have enough guys but so far no ladies are showing any interests. i requested to join the yahoogroup. still waiting for approval.
Hm... lack of lady players is a common theme. I guess if you can recruit just one lady, you can still play 4 out of the 5 matches.
Just need a lady.. ..can a spouse tag along eventhough she is not part of a certain company??..say, kwun's missus??..
Just need a lady.. The subject of including wife (and daughters) of an employee had been brought up and rejected by the committee.
Going once, going twice... 13 participant confirmed, accepting 3 more... > Advantech > Cisco > EBay > Genentech > Google > Intel > Lam Research > NVidia > Oracle > Roche > UCB > VMware > Yahoo
Not sure but I heard there are others trying to form a team at the moment. With one month to go I am confident that we can fill the two remaining slots fast, and maybe even form a waiting list. I think this annual tournament is going to be a truly premier event (which I believe it already is) for the bay area. Thinking ahead to next year, I suggest the organizers should establish some ground rules like who automatically qualify for next year's event (maybe the top 8 companies) and who could be replaced (last 4?) or has to play qualifying round etc, so that we can have some new blood, and raise the quality of the tournament...
I was thinking.. ..it would be pretty cool if each group of participants has the corporate logo on their shirt. It'll look quite uniformed and "distinctive" looking..
i personally think that we should accomodate as many teams as applied. afterall it is supposed to be a friendly tournament and excluding teams will be detrimental to that spirit.
trying to form a team for IBM. I agree with you Kwun We have been trying to form a IBM team the last couple of days....and just started broadcasting the info, but it takes some processing time, and might not be until next week that people get to know about it. so after all the effort, and if we actually end up forming a team, I hope it will not be a wasted one. Also, if anyone from IBM is reading this post, please PM me if you wish to participate in this tournament.
