I suppose her opponent cannot read her body language if she herself does not know what she is going to do. So there is less time for her opponent to react. It probably helps that she has a strong wrist, so she is able to change a dropshot to a lob without needing much follow through. I'm surprised that she lost rather tamely to Wang Shixian today. Maybe it is a lack of confidence, or she may be taking things slowly. But she appeared to be sick. In my opinion, her court coverage isn't inferior to Wang Shixian, and she has got more power.
i think many who know ratchanok will be surprise to find that someone say she is lack of confidence
    believe me
she always believe she can at least give a very tough challenge to any top player
i believe zhang ning had found the solution to handle her for now
but ratchanok will continue to improve
    which made zhang ning headache
    haha

I tried to look out for her name under all the girls events but could not find.
Maybe you could double check from the tournamentsoftware.

Anyway, I think this tournament is not for her. She should train for the SS and the Olympics.

    .
Agree. RI will be too strong for the Li-Ning Youth Int'l. She is up in standard with SS players now.

I wouldn't be surpised if she were to withdraw after playing the AG team, the Korea GP, and two Super Series in consecutive weeks. However, as of today, she is still in two draws.

Ha ha, I was just trying to find a reason why the score wasn't closer than I had expected. I think her level of play is reaching that of Wang Shixian.

I just realised that her surname is Inthanon, and not Ratchanok. Anyway, I don't think she will want to miss all the fun. There are altogether 59 Thais in this large contingent. I guess that it should be the last time she will be playing in this tournament. Next year, she'll probably be participating in all the big ones. Moreover, she has many Thai friends based in Singapore. Found some of the photos of her in the 2007 tournament taken by Sealman and Loh. Can't believe that she used to be SO tiny, LOL.

I think it's a waste to leave all these photos in a thread that is no one visits anymore. Anyway, it's thanks to both of you that we can all sit back and laugh about it. It's really sad to see so many of them not making it into the professional circuit in the end. Ratchanok's cheeks still looks pinchable, LOL.

They are the U15 GD pair of Shella Devi Aulia and Mega Cahya Purnama, but I don't know the difference between the two. The link is here:

Haha, I join Bruce in thanking you for bringing back some happy memories.
RI somehow did not strike me then as so "powerful" as she turns out to be now. She was indeed very "tiny" and of course that was some three years ago when she was 12 years old!

That's one reason why I would try to turn up to see her in action and perhaps take a photo with her. Hope its all right with limsy.

BTW the venue then was the old and historical SBA Hall at Guillimard Rd where most of the local tournaments were held, but now it is unavailable and leased out as a food court, I think. Hopefully, the new indoor stadium at the new Kallang Sports Hub now being built will be the next badminton venue.

Yes, back then it was not easy to predict that she will have made such an impact. I wonder if she knew, when she made the decision to participate, that the venue which holds memories of her childhood victories (I mean earlier childhood) no longer exists.

Default 3 years later, Ratchatok is vastly different in looks and in skills

Compare the pics taken in December 2007 and those that I am presenting to you now on her action during the recent Li Ning S'pore Youth Int'l, you will observe that RI looks vastly different though she is merely 15 now.

Taller, prettier and stronger she now gives tips to her doubles partner and why not with her greater exposure to the international arena?

She will continue to impress us at the world stage and will be the darling of THAILAND badminton. With Saina Nehwal and possibly a few other girls, Ratchanok will be among the limited numbers who can punch a hole into the Great Wall of China.

Ratchanok seen here playing GSU19 semis when she beat Lin Ying Chun (TPE) 21-18, 21-13. She went on to defeat another Taiwanese Chen Yen Hua in the finals, 21-9, 21-19.
