has anyone actually done any tests on the actual equivalent between CP and lockout? i got a racket that was strung 23x25 on a electronic (AM600). i tried to match the tone of the string on an equivalent racket using the same string. it takes 28x30 on my ASE to match it. 20% seems like quite a bit of difference.
Hi Kwun, What type of string was it ? And did you pre-stretch ? I don't have any scientific data, but I've strung a few racquets on my Victor C-7030 and I found a significant difference when compared to racquets strung with the same string on my old Alpha Axis Lockout. I would guestimate for example a string job at 22 lbs on my Victor feels like a 24 lb job on my Alpha. So not as extreme as your case but significant none the less. If you're using BG-65 without pre-stretching the difference with CP with Pre-stretch and Lockout would be higher (compared to another string like BG-80) due to the slack. Also, have you calibrated your machine ?
Hi Kwun, 1 quick experiment. When you string the next racquet, give it a try. For example, you are stringing at 22x24lb. When you pull the string with your lock out machine, set 22lb for mains, pull to 20lb on 1st pull, then turn back the handle. then crank to 22lb to lock out. Do the same procedure for cross. You will see a major difference. Now you should be within 5% of the ECP machine.
Many local players claim that the tension from my string job (using constant pulling machine) feels a lot tighter than others who use crank machines. Some claimed that my 24lb feels tighter than others' 25 or 26lbs from crank ones. So, I guess it does make a noticeable difference.
Sounds about right to me. My 22/24lbs using dropweight would feel like 28lbs on my friends' crank machine.
Where is string my rackets, the electronic machine seems to be about 1lb higher than the manual crank. Oh and the electronic jobbie seems to maintain tension better too....
i do expect ECP to be tighter, but i did not expect to be as much as 20%. granted that my ASE is not calibrated. maybe i should calibrate it.
I've work with many lock-out (crank) machines and a few constant pulls. The crank machines vary greatly if not calibrated correctly. Assuming all the crank machines are calibrated the same, the difference versus a constant pull is about 3lbs. All the constant pull machines were extremely close in tension, within 1lb., as they should be.
I string most of my rackets at 27x30 with BG66 with my crank. I prestretch for at least 1 minute. The pull with a loop of the string is at least 50lbs. When compared to string jobs done with a WISE set to CP (also with the manual prestretch), the difference is very slight. Definitely less than 1 lb.
It's true. Originally I sold my Laserfibre machine for an Alpha REVO4000 but I found the tension a lot more loose and not only that, it continued to get a more loose over time where my stringjobs done on the Laserfibre machine stayed very consistent after the first initial drop. Luckily Alpha started carrying Stringway so I didn't have to deal with Laserfibre anymore.
when i did 31x30 for my friend, we compare his other racket stringed with CP with the stringing I just did, it make the same sound. I know the string tension I just did will drop but so far I never seen mine drop alot. I normally prestretch at least 3 minutes with at least 10% higher (when I did 31x30 I think i prestretch it at 35lbs for 3 minutes).
so are you moving back to a stringway machine? OR are you buying a WISE to mount on the REVO4000? The wise seems to be the sexier choice!
Nope I'm back onto Stringway and I'm LOVING it! Yes Wise is very sexy but I prefer drop weight machine since they will last a lifetime with proper care and isn't beyond my scope of repairing if it were to break a few years down the road and I had no warranty left.
That's my findings as well, more or less. Just got a Crump(lockout) from Silent Partner. Been using dropwight for almost 15 years. So I guess stringing with an extra 1-2#s should be enough compensating.
