I didn't find a thread on a question I have on service so I thought I start a thread on Rules of the Game.

Tonight I played with some friends and I was serving, My opponent was moving his arms. I told him that was against the rules and then he said I can't be talking to him either. He was also shaking his racquet which I said he can't do but he said he can as long as his body is not moving.

Talking to him can be a fault for distracting but this incident was to tell him to stop moving! I reserved anyhow but I still think he cannot move his racquet before a serve.

    Anyone knows the rules here?

he can certainly move his racket and arms. the only thing he cannot move is his feet away from the ground.

Thanks! From google-ing rules, somewhere says, player cannot move before a serve, which was kinda vague!

You are not allowed to feint during the serve so I guess it depends on which direction the arms and racket were moving

If he's obviously distracting your service, with big gestures, then that's a fault. But if he's just shaking his arms and racket to be able to gain momentum, that's okay. I think.

I think so too. At first he was flapping his arms (nothing to do with preparing for the serve) and so I thought that was an intentional distraction.

Now HIM complaining of me taking to him, that was a bit childish, when I tried to tell him he can't be moving like that!

Anyone is has a Judging License?

Is this during a tournament? If so, you should have complained to the umpire instead.

But if this is just a game, it's okay to talk to him.

Tis just a game with friends with no umpire but I would like to know the rules when I play with some serious players!

Let's just wait for a certified umpire to answer your question. But from what I know, obstruction and distraction are faults.

I know this is not what is being discussed exactly but does kind of relate to moving on serves

My question is about rushing the net when receiving a serve, when can the receiving player move?? Is the serving player allowed to move from the serving box before he strikes the shuttle etc...???

this question has arose due to a guy we play with constantly rushing the net, fair enough he has quick reaction times, but without being extremely accurate with short serving every time he's gonna whack it back at your NUTS.
Personally I do try and mix my serving a lot and score many points against him using the old flick serve but probably not as many as he catches while rushing the net

u never see pro's rushing from a service is this just because of superior serving and not wanting to get caught out with the flick serve ??

I see this all the time and I think is allowed as soon as the server racquet touches the shuttle. If your opponent stands close to the net to rush it, then I'd serve behind him.

so the receiving player can move out of his serving area as soon as the shuttle is is touched ??? is that right ???

looks like i'll just have to improve my short serve game
