you make it sound like these two clubs are for the social elites. a lot of nice guy and gals, and the odd annoyance. you guys should play there, lots of good players.

Don, there is no doubt that these two clubs have great players and good people but I don't know why it is so, it really is very difficult and high cost for myself, and other people I know to get in. I guess maybe we are just not good enough or lack the right connections. I talked to people online that goes to the Harvard club who told me to just show up and play but when I went to the door, they told me I can't play since I am not Harvard affiliated. Maybe I can mention your name next time Don. seriously, it would be nice to play there. especially MIT, they got excellent facilities.

may be you need to find an insider?

i can imagine most clubs will be reluctant to accept random strangers at the door, but if someone who knows the club organizer well, may be they can pull you in.

or may be there are some secret handshake? . i have played in a university gym that i wasn't affiliated with. normally the university don't allow strangers into the gym. i was told to just say "Chinese club badminton" at the door and the guard will just let you in.

    Haha, that's pretty funny.

As far as I know it. I am acquantances with the good players of the club. I seriously don't know how they remember me from year to year, when I only play maybe 4 times a year down there. I am told if coming into town, drop one of them an email and I will be let in. Beats me on what's going on.

This tightening of "security" to the badminton only happened recently. I remember playing in MIT a couple years ago simply by walking in and pay the $5, but not anymore. Harvard I have never tried, actually I am thinking of trying to go in the coming weeks because I just found out that the hospital I do my research at is actually affiliated with Harvard University so perhaps I AM affiliated with Harvard after all as well.

hey mkwan, as much as I love to but I actually just injured my back last thursday so I am out of badminton for awhile. I'll let you know when I feel a little better. In the mean time, feel free to stop by and check it out yourself if you got the chance. Red line and Kendall station is right next to MIT. Let me know if you do go and check it out.

haha. Unfortunately I am not kidding, my lower back is a little messed up right now, feeling better everyday so that's a good sign. surprisingly, I feel pain when I don't move around whereas I am fine when I am climbing stairs, walking, etc.

hi jwu. by reading this thread i could say you play a lot of badminton in the boston area. me and my family moved to boston months ago. i used to play badminton in my home country but had to stop because of family responsibilities. i want to play regularly again so i can introduce the game to my sons...you know, to start them young so they can learn to love the sport. what gym in mit can i go to play? is that the rockwell gym? how about in bu? where in bu can i play (what gym?)?

MIT Badminton club summer hours, open to public, 7bucks/student, 12 bucks/non-student.

    tuesday, friday night from 6-9
    sunday afternoon from 1-4.

BU is no longer a public club as u need a membership to enter their new facility.

BTW, i know 4 badminton from BC who are pretty decent...

Default I want to play in badminton in Boston!! PLEASE HELP!

Hi All, I am visiting Boston from May 9 to June 2, 2009 and wondered if any one of you could kindly take me to play badminton together. I am Indonesian, 32 y.o., have been playing badminton competitively for over 5 years now (double) -- I would say that I am advanced intermediate.

I'd really appreciate if someone who lives in Boston area or anyone who has some friends who live in Boston to introduce me to them so that I will be able to play during my visit in Boston. Thank you so, very much for your kindness and help!!!
